Excited to be joining this esteemed group of enthusiasts with my recent acquisition of a stunning 2011 X5M in the amazing MC Blue/Gay color combination.
I came upon this vehicle after much research as I had 3 very important requirements: 1. Fast 2. Luxury 3. Easy to access baby car seat! Okay, so item 3 was really necessary to get the wife onboard but you gotta use all the tools at your disposal, right?!? Well, I also had to give up my other toy, a restored '50 Ford F1 pickup... just wasn't baby friendly even if it caught attention at Cars and Coffee. So far I have installed the aforementioned car seat, tow mount front license plate, and had the windows tinted. Lots of lurking on here to get a feel for what I might do with the car, several beautifully done MCBs that I am following and many others with awesome ideas that just seem to push the car into a new league. Hope to see you guys around and ask for tips along the way! Shout out to any locals in DFW! |

Not sure what the key options are as I am learning more about it every day from this forum. Appears it does not have the comfort access option.
I did a VIN lookup but most items seem fairly standard. Here is the VIN: 5YMGY0C54BLK26758 I have a few annoyances that I am looking to resolve though I believe most require some custom coding: can't close lift gate from remote (or dash it appears), doors auto lock but don't Auto Unlock when in park, can roll windows down via keyfob but cannot roll them up. Okay, the last one doesn't really bother me but the first one really does! Any cool tips or tricks you can point me toward? Really interested in the AVIN thread as it seems to really update the dash but reading through the thread, not sure I am ready to make that purchase. Thinking about stance as well... the ride is pretty comfortable now so hesitant about potentially losing some of that comfort. I am just excited to be daily driving something I truly love, even if my commute is 6miles round trip (and 30 miles on a train!). |

I thought that Comfort Access was standard on the M, but I looked back at mine and it is indeed an option. At the time, I guess there were some people that were adamantly against the keyless access.
The auto closing is a US thing - regulations wouldn't allow it. Depending on your level of experience with coding, check out Carly (mycarly.com) - makes it really easy to code the basic things like folding mirrors, video in motion, uncorrected speed, etc. Enjoy the M! |

The E70 X5M had 5 optional packages and a number of stand-alone options. I decoded your VIN and it has 2 of the 5 packages, Premium Sound (enhanced sound, satellite radio, and iPod/USB) and Driver’s Assistance (HUD, high beam assistant, and rear-view camera with top view). Also has rear power lift gate as a stand alone option. Yes, as others have mentioned, check out the coding options available for your X5. Coding is a must-do on these cars IMO. If you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself, check out www.codemycar.com. Highly recommended |

Awesome information guys! I think I will give the coding a shot, just making sure the options I am after exist before pulling the trigger.
I miss the comfort access, was hard to go back to pulling the key out of my pocket again but a few hard pulls accelerations and I forgot all my concerns! |

As mentioned, for basic user coding, just get Carly.
You can control all your own coding at a few presses using the app on your phone, plus has great safety systems should something not code properly. They also update regularly, adding more features. Here's the information for the VIN quoted above. Quote:

When coding the FRM, it can be ridiculously sensitive to writing/reading - Carly will at least attempt to prevent you from bricking it. FRM can be bench reset, but it needs specialised tools that the vast majority of workshops will have no idea or have access to.
BMW will try to sell you a new module. |
