Not surprised by the amount of hate this car has received. We seem to want to hate on what's new.

Serious question, was anyone excited about the look of this car when it first launched?

The answer is no. I'm sure bland/boring was a common narrative. They changed that with this car.

Give it time because the G22 will grow on you. There are elements of this car that are fantastic and far superior to the outgoing model.

By the looks of the original thread, I'd say very much so. Lots of positive comments. I'm also excited for this car, albeit do have some critiques.

I was sitting at a stoplight this morning and right in front of me I see the inspiration for the tail lights. Hahaha. Looks like bmw reached into the Honda/Acura parts bin. Or at least the same oe light maker:

BMW needs to STOP with the black lower trim pieces.

It does not look good and already makes the car appear more lifted that it is in reality.

The front page of this thread is pretty positive too. The deeper you get the more critique comes. One common critique, the tail lights.

The wide fenders, power dome hood, updated interior+tech are steps in the right direction. Wait till we see a few modded ones and people will change their mind quicker than the G80.

While to my eyes certain styling details are awkward, and overwrought, I don't hate it overall. In fact I'm sure I'd get used to it. And hope the extra more aggressive details on the M2 will work well with the overall design.

Bring on the M2, Competition or CS, with a manual. No manual = no sale.

hmm do you believe being that the 230 and the 240i xdrive are out first, the 240i coming out later... the 240i would have the idrive8 dash design directly.

At that price point, all your getting from the other German automakers is a 4 cylinder with front wheel biased AWD. Not to mention a 2 door coupe isn't even offered.
That's exactly how much a 1M Coupe was

It's crazy how far we've come

To be fair tail lights is one thing BMW has never got right for the most part.

Yooooo...almost 3,900 lbs for the M240i xDrive???? What in the HELL.

In my opinion, the F22 2 Series was the only great new BMW. Decent looks, not too big, not too heavy, available manual transmission. This is none of that. Super cheesy looks, freaking huge, morbidly obese, automatic only. It might be a comfortable car but that is the only thing it has going for it.

Say what you want about the base F22s, but that was at least a clean design. The G22 is like 6000 lbs of styling on a 3000 (well actually near-4000 lb) car.
