Apex Forged Wheels for BMW E90 E92 E93 M3 | Performance Wheels for Street and Track

Title: Apex Wheels: Project ML-10 Introduction and Survey - Community Feedback Requested.

This post will be familliar to those of you who follow our instagram, but we wanted to reach out to the BMW community on the forums as well to collect feedback about the development of a new Apex Forged wheel design.

Project ML-10 Background:

After Josh, one of our Senior Product Engineers installed a widebody kit on his race car project, he had to design a custom set of wheels to fit his extreme application. Originally a one off project, when he showed the team what he created, we were floored. And our community was too when we shared a picture on Instagram and Facebook.

We’ve made it an official project, but to make this wheel a reality, we need you to decide on some of the details by taking our survey.

Josh has been a longtime E46 enthusiast. Alongside his dual-duty E46 M3, he eventually began to get the itch for a more hardcore dedicated track car. While the M3 was transitioned to a more streetable setup, he began work on his second E46 chassis. You might catch the M3 in the background of some of the shots in this post.

Josh wanted to do something different for his V8 swapped, widebody E46 GTR inspired race car project. He needed an extreme fitment, so he challenged himself to design a new style instead of just using something we already had. Josh is also exercising his other engineering skills with this E46 project, including a ton of custom fabrication and welding. That includes the cage, air jacks system, side exit exhaust, rear fuel cell, and more.

Opting for an LS1 power plant (an S62 swap was deemed too expensive), Josh went about bulletproofing the engine with a Trunnion upgrade, ATI damper, Melling oil pump, and a 7 quart mid sump oil pan, and accusump. Future plans include an LS6 intake, Z06 heads, and a cam.

To fill the wide GTR style fenders he needed to design an 18x11” wheel with a crazy -1 offset. With such a low offset, he thought it would be fun to combine a concave mesh face with a lip since we’ve never done a forged wheel with a front lip before. This wheel is a one piece monoblock design with a motorsport gold center and machined lip. It is engineered to be extra beefy featuring a 2100 lb load rating and our enduro style front and rear lip. Strength and stiffness were a major priority since he’ll be endurance racing the car with friends and family.

Next up for Josh’s project car is grafting on the fender flares, interior and exterior paint, and installation of suspension.

Let us know if you’d like to see more updates as Josh’s build progresses! If you’re here to see the wheel this project birthed, check out some additional high quality shots of the ML-10.
