2011 X5 rattle in rear

Buddy picked up a very well maitained X5 diesel recently. His only complaint is some strange, intermittent noise in the tailgate area. I went and looked at it today and he grabbed hold of the luggage cover at the back and rattled it side to side. The noise it made is like what he hears but is still there with the cover removed.

I did find that the little plastic cover over the rear wiper pivot wasn't clicked down and that the gas strut covers move around, at least with the hatch open. I'll let you know if the wiper cover is the fox.

One more thing. I saw in another thread something about worn/faulty rubber spring seats. Could that be his issue?
