Can this be fixed?

OK; spent enough time searching.... And this is likely the rear hatch creaking/groaning culprit (latch as in the video). It is not the rear seats (checked).

Can I remove the surrounding hardware and expect to reasonably tighten whatever has come loose or is a purchase of the entire part that comprises this 'U latch' required? Thanks.

Just finished painstakingly figuring out how to manually release the lower gate with a screw driver on either side.

From what I recall... This tightens right up. Actually better than that even... I remember when I was tightening it being concerned with alignment to make sure it would close and latch. I'm positive this is a position-able and tighten-able component.

Can I remove the surrounding hardware and expect to reasonably tighten whatever has come loose or is a purchase of the entire part that comprises this 'U latch' required? Thanks.

I tried removing and trying to repair it this afternoon. It doesn't seem like it's anything that can really be tightened or repaired. The part number is 51-24-7-233-909. I found it on ECS tuning and real OEM.com for $350. It includes the entire mechanism and mounting from what I see on the site.

If anyone has had any success repairing it, please post. Thanks.

Here's the link to the part.

Are you talking about the creaking noise as you drive?

If so, this is a common and known problem with too much play in the upper portion of the tailgate. The solution is to adjust the bumpers outwards enough to to cause create enough tension as to stop the noise, but not too much noise to prevent the tailgate from closing. Keep searching Google, there are tutorials for fixing this.

Good luck!
