Yearly Service at BMW?

I bought my vehicle used with 68k miles and I saw the previous owners did yearly or even 6months on the car and it's been very well maintained. It was listed in the car fax and it showed exactly what was fixed and changed

Service question: do you guys take your car to dealer for the yearly service or wait to something breaks or just basic main range items like tires brakes and oil and reset the service light somehow? I want to keep the car going but don't want to shell out thousands each year at bmw dealer. This is probably the highest mileage vehicle I've had with 70k on the clock and I want to keep it going.

Don’t ever, ever, ever, ever, ever go to the stealership for anything, other than for recalls (free). The stealership will murder you over everything and use fear to make you second guess yourself. Identify a competent independent mechanic (Indy) in your area for difficult repairs and DIY the routine stuff, purchasing parts/supplies from FCP Euro (lifetime replacement on everything, including oil and filter). Best deal going if you can ship back for cheap.

I usually buy all the parts myself and either DIY or have a local independent shop who is willing to install my parts do the work if it's out of my expertise. Dealership will charge you the highest labor rates, and the highest part prices. If you don't mind spending extra for the ease of going to the dealership then by all means.

Anyone have a recommended Indy mechanic in NYC area? I found a good shop but they won't install parts I buy

This!!!! On my 6th BMW (97 528, 01/04/07 530, 10 535i) taking my one month new to me 13 X5 x35i M-Sport to the Stealership tomorrow for the Airbag recall. One of the 530's went twice for battery cable and something else...that's it!! What's above my head is reserved for the Indy.

I vouch for MChanics as well. George will install customer supplied parts as well as OEM BMW.
