2010 X5 35D "my first car"

2010 E70 X5 35D with 54K miles
Purchased in 2012 with 16K miles
This is my first car and I plan to keep it forever. Have had it for 8 years and it has never let me down. I want to bullet proof with complete emissions delete and complete maintenance. Also want to lift it and turn it into a 35D overland expedition rig.

Just found this forum while browsing the internet for pictures of wheels on X5s. The all seasons I bought it on are worn out and I was looking into summer setups. Thought I’d go ahead and make an account after I read through this entire 100,000 mile thread! We purchased our 2012 35i around 2 years ago with 85,000 miles on it After the wife’s e92 murdered my back on vacation and now we’re up over 108,000. It’s been an excellent vehicle so far with just What I would call routine BMW maintenance, nothing at all unexpected yet. (Knock on wood) I’ve done a battery, brakes, plugs, coil packs, valve Cover gasket and oil filter gasket. Thing drives amazing, gets solid fuel mileage and is extremely comfortable on long voyages. I’ve been extremely happy with it and hope to put thousands of more miles on it!

if you can EGR Delete it!

178K Miles on a 40D. EGR Delete is a must!!! I repeat its a must! Biggest issue has been starter issues which I later found out to be a result of engine ground cable cut.

Changed the transfer case, Did an overhaul of the suspension system (just because ) and finally Turbo repaired and Stage 2 Tuned.. Again EGR removes all engine and turbo issues on the diesel model.

Keep an eye on your coolant system. Common problems will be water pump dying and coolant expansion tank leak from the bottom connection. Also make sure the engine partitions are not going to leak water on the engine.

Appreciate the info. The coolant system is on my radar. Also own an e46 and e92 and have done preventative refreshers on both of their coolant systems. Will likely do the same on this e70 here shortly. I’d rather just replace it all then risk having a failure while on a long trip or while my wife is driving it or something.

Electric Water Pump/Thermostat
Torn CV Boot
Plastic Firewalls 3 Pieces (Brittle)
Coils and Plugs at 100K
Transmission Fluid/Filter - 100K
Heater Valve - 135K
Oil Pan Gasket (Normal for these vehicles around 90K)
Airbag Recall
Replaced Brake Rotors and Pads.

I use it for a daily driver 70 miles/day. A great vehicle that I intend to keep until it stops. I believe she will go for 300K as long as I treat her well.
My "new to me" (One Owner) 2013 35i M-Sport w/only 55k mi on the clock partly disagrees....Oil Pan Gasket (Leaking) and Water Pump/Thermostat (Leaking) needed replacement right out the gate! But "NOW" I'm good for another 100k right!!??

2011 35i 6-seater at 118k mi.

Besides standard maintenance: rebuilt transfer case at 80k with new clutches and chain (turned out mount was the failure) and diff fluids. New HFPF at 100k, injectors, with coils and plugs, and decarbonizing (chemical method). Bypassed vacuum accumulator at 110k (leaking oil internally, need to do VC). Just did new struts as the bumpers were crumbles.

Mods: OEM trailer hitch for toys, 25mm rear spacer for square 214 20x10 setup (kept the 315's for track days), headlight washer (thank you deer), Oil dipstick valve, removed 2nd row middle seat (apply grinder, 3-kids), kick to open trunk, ACC retrofit (DSC, SZL, LDM, ACC).

Dreams: Heated front seats, heated steering wheel, exhaust flap relay control, sunroof rebuild(only slides open), maybe active steering

On my '12 35i I'd estimate the life of the water pump at 5-6 years or 60-70k miles.

oil pan gasket for me was around 100k miles.

My 335 is on its 4th water pump at 125k miles. At least I bought it from FCP Euro this time with a lifetime warranty. The water pump on my X5 is original at 110k miles. Although, I did just replaced the turbo pump.

2007 x5 N62 180k miles. Meticulously maintained. Might have a little driveshaft play, and maybe needs 3/4 vanos solenoids to be absolutely perfect.

Would like to hear more people from the x5 M platform with miles like this...

2011 x5d here 161k now owned for around 3 years, fully deleted and tuned now running an ATM intercooler and more. Considering, its been super reliable. I have only had problems mainly from emissions related components prior to deletes. I have also had to change the thermostat, glow plug, fuel filter and other maintenance stuff. With the deletes its been a beast towing my boat around.

I just got my x5 and I love it. The previous owner did all the maintenance at a dealership so I didn't really have too many issues. The only thing I'm missing is 20" rims. Seems I just have no luck finding rims.

My X5M (E70, 2010) reached 290'000 km when an accident (with no people harm fortunately) made an immediate stop to the counting of additional km unfortunately; moved over to an X5M (F85) now. I had no big issues with the E70 and it still had his initial brake discs on the front and on the rear axes - unbelievable ! I was very happy with it. The biggest issues were new injectors at approx. 110'000 km and BMW did cover for the cost even outside of warranty. The X5M (E70) started to burn some oil when reaching 180'000 km and at the end at 290'000 km I needed to refil 1l oil each ca 1'600 km - no big deal.

Currently at 118k with the 35D.. I've been working from home since March so the miles definitely took a slow climb.

2011 x35d with 135k mi. The car had a few issues before I bought it about a year & a half ago, some warranty/recall stuff, & including some issue with the A/C & heater core.

Since I've had it I had to replace the harmonic balancer & because I let it go (not knowing it was going out) when it went it took out some belts & a seal on the engine.

I do love this car though.... never owned a performance tank until now.

Great state of Maine so I drive on some of the worst roads and in some unkind weather situations plus curves, hills, and hazards. MY X5 is great to drive and oh so comfortable. 132k on the 09 X5 3.0. Basic maintenance Oil and filter changes every 6-7k. Front suspensions refresh all connectors and arms. Coils Plugs, all recalls, VCG and oil filter housing gaskets. Drivetrain fluids. Brakes twice. Tires twice and bought full size spare kit. All maintenance DIY - only purchased service was programming a new battery.

Been a while since I saw this thread!

My X5D has turned over 282k. Within 8 months I should hit 300k! Although it could be much sooner if everything opens up and I start doing big road trips again.
