N55 HPFP upgrade for motors before 2012?

anyone ever experienced a HPFP upgrade to the new generation with an "old" N55 before 2012?

I'm curious about this too, I have heard the ECU signal is different, though I wonder if an ECU flash would be adequate to handle the signal variation/mapping, or if the new 2012+ N55 had other ECU changes. I doubt it since all the other PWG and sensor and controllers are the same as far as I can tell.

I have both the newer tappet and the old rotary style HPFPs in 2 different BMWs with N55s, fwiw, as I compare them during various upgrades and maintenance.
