One of my buddies in college had a 2008 (sub 10 yrs old at the time) Kia. The thing was more dated inside and out than an 80's bmw. 12 years ago they were 3 decades behind the competition so I fully agree seeing them selling 42k cars for 47k is insane to me. |

I used to work at a Kia dealership. Customers were actually willing to pay $5k-$7k markups on the SX-P Tellurides. The LX Tellurides had a $2-$3k markup. Same with the S. I think the EX and SX had a $4k-$5k markup and the SX-P had a $6k-$7k markup (depending on the dealership) There's no way in hell I am paying 60K for a damn Kia . That POS will be worth like $30k in 2 years

There's no negotiation or rebates on any Telluride either. When I worked at Kia (2019-2020), the only rebates you got on the Telluride was $1k rebate (if you ordered) which later down the line Kia got rid of. In that case, any Telluride that's on a dealer's lot is (and still are) marked up. So, you ended up paying $2-$7k extra on top of the sticker (depending on what Trim level Telluride you opted for). If you ordered one, you would pay sticker. There's hardly any Kia dealership that will Negotiate on a Telluride. Since they're still hard to keep on the lot. |

X5s are great as a lease vehicle in warranty. There is a reason you can pick up a 3 year old $85k X5 for $35,000. 🙃 |

I daily drive a 2017 GMC sierra 1500 Denali, have a 2013 F350 Lariat Powerstroke for a tow vehicle and a 04 expedition as a beater/mud toy I have absolutely zero interest in a telluride if i want a SUV i’d buy an escalade range rover or a X5 not a Kia.

And I'd rather buy the leased X5 with some warranty on it and better-built quality than a Telluride (or any other Korean Product). |

It always amuses me when people talk like BMW has some great build quality or something. Ive owned 10 M cars and a couple non M cars. Still waiting to see that magic build quality. My MIL has a 12 year old Kia Sorento. Runs perfect. Been in the shop less than my dads 17 X5. |

For example, I noticed one of the door handle trims wasn't clicking in. I took it to the dealership to get it fixed. If the car wasn't under warranty, I wouldn't bother. Sometimes a car going in and out of a dealership doesn't mean it's crappy |

Does your dad follow maintenance intervals or does he fill up with gas and change the oil every 15k? If Kia’s are so much better. Why did you let him buy a BMW instead of telling him he needs a telluride?

But the Kia is nicer than a 07 335i, 13 F350, and all those other trucks you named. |

However i would not claim it to be nicer than a newish Denali. Not sure how much you know about them but for example a brand new one is a $100k truck and 2017’s are still going for $50-60k

Production capabilities, estimated demand, competition, timing, the vehicle market in general. It's all a numbers game and the companies do their homework to squeeze profits to the best of their abilities. If they didn't see an advantage to charging over MSRP they wouldn't have. Apparently full sized SUVs are still a hot item and the shiny new thing on the block warrants a markup in a particular area, so that's what they will do. Don't hate the player hate the game.
After all, someone has to buy/lease the new cars for the used market to thrive. We can already slowly see how things are impacted after almost a year of this unusual market. It looks like it will take a bit more time for the abnormalities in the car markets to be more obvious. |
