BMW to support ipod out

hope the we can get an update. although my idrive controls my ipod well enough, the update looks really cool.

Anyone know if BMW updates the software on the idrive for existing models?

I think BMW should just put an iPad in then you could have maps,music,videos and the software could be updated whenever Apple comes out with a new release. of course BMW would not be happy as you would not have to buy a new car just to get modern software.

Well, the September 2010 update memo just released from BMW says that the iPod Out functionality is hardware dependent, and so previous cars can't be upgraded!!!!

And the software update feature mentioned above has apparently also been included, but only for September 2010+ cars.

No real updates other updates for X6. I guess I'll need to wait until Model Year 2012 is announced before I try to upgrade... maybe by then X6 will have the Gran Turismo style instruments with the built-in navigation!

I have to be honest, I am pretty pissed that I haven't even taken delivery yet and there are already updates. I completely understand that automotive technology is always changing, but the 2011's just came out!

Same boat here. Just got mine in May. 4000km on it. Now I have to see this video? SHIT! haha I use my iPod every day, I wanna see Album Covers!

It also seems sort of ridiculous how none of the new features are strictly software related ... we can't even get some of them via a software update?!?

i got my CRV years ago and ipod 2/3/4g worked with ipod cable out of the box - no shitty y cable needed - BMW boasts to be the first to work with ipod but last to implement - i think it takes them frikking 3-4 years to figure things out and reverse engineer stuff from ipod - my 2011 x5 still uses the crappy y cable -

and hardware independant ? the ipod creates marvels through the same cable but just different apps - gps - bluetooth - remote - wifi - you name it - bmw got this lousy marketing strategy where its about h/w upgrade - maybe apple should create idrive since I actually is more related to them then bmw - sux !!
