Failed flash on my 2013 X5M with a Dinan stage 1 tune
I was flashing my 2013 X5M with Dinan S1 and got an error during the process. Now when I connect it, it says the DME is locked (with no tune, I'm guessing). The car cranks but doesn't start. I will contact Dinan tech support but they don't open until Monday, so I just wanted to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation.
Am I screwed?? Will I need to tow it to shop to have them recover my stock tune? What are my options? TIA |

Did you have it on battery tender? If not, that's your problem. Same thing happened to me...I had it hooked up to a modern digital battery tender, but that wasn't working. I ended up hooking it up to an old school battery charger and it worked.

Yup, it happens. You'll have to get on the phone monday. Make sure you have a good battery charger and a solid internet connection, it takes about 50 minutes.

Dinan flash process is not well thought out. Their software first erases the targeted date from the ECU, then proceeds to download new data from Dinan's server, which is a long and slow process that can take over an hour, and only then writes the new data to the ECU. During the whole process the car must have ignition on, draining the battery, and the computer must be on and connected to the internet. Any interruption due to dropped internet connection or discharged battery will cause failed flash.
They should've made it where the data from the ECU gets deleted only after the new data is downloaded and ready to be written. |

Agreed.
I ended up having to call them 3 different times to unlock it. I had a brand new battery and it completely drained it within an hour with a small charger on it. I ended up getting a larger 15A charger. The next time my download stopped at 10% and it failed again. My router is only about 20 feet from my garage with no obstructions. Took about 50 mins hardwired. |
