X6 Production Info
So just talked to a senior guy at BMW Munich who a mate introduced me to and had a short discussion on the X6 production delays that I and others are experiencing. It seems a few things are happening in BMW X6 land.
1. Demand from China has skyrocketed and reduced allocation in NA as they make twice the profit in China on an X6. 2. Demand for the diesel variants has also increased in Asia and Europe placing more demand on an already limited production capability. 3. Not sure this one translated properly but the EPA is on BMW's case about the 50i and X6M's due to the emissions on the V8 engines My technical Deutsch is a little rusty. Not sure how this translates to production issues but if anyone with more knowledge can enlighten me it would be much appreciated! 4. Demand from the Western US is larger than the Eastern but I could not get an answer on how BMW quantifies this (Sales, allocations, requests for vehicles?). 4. The new dealer allocations for September production should be issued between the 25th and 27th of July, so I may finally get a new production number!!!! That's all the info I had, my conversation was limited and in German so if anyone has any other verifiable info they can add that contributes to the thread feel free! |

No idea yet - haven't rec'd production number (hoping to get it today or tomorrow based on this post).
I ordered a 35i (3) weeks ago, but then changed to the 50i last week - sounded like they're tough to get due to allocation. I saw the Enhanced option on the BMWUSA site, but my dealer can't find it on the build sheet in their system when they enter it. Are you sure the dealer could find this? Have you taken delivery yet? If not, when's you build week? Eager to test out the M Package - can't find any performance reviews online (eg if it makes a noticeable difference). |

I hope they give you one heck of a deal for putting up with all of this. All that about emissions and Chinese demand seems a little off. I can't see how it would take this long. I scheduled an appointment to pick up my X6M Monday afternoon. That's around 30 days from order to delivery. Murray did say they had an allocation, but even with that, I've been following my estimated production dates and it was built 2 weeks early. They really need to give you some sort of discount or some free accessories or something. Do they have free coffee and donuts?

As far as I'm concerned even the fixed price dealers are up for negotiation. As of now I'm getting the car for $75 over invoice including the options. The 3M and Tire protection discussion will occur when I have them over a barrel at document signing.
Order was inputted by the dealer an hour ago, its currently scheduled for August 31st to start production but we all know those dates can move. Order is currently; 13XM X6 50i LVB4 Sand Beige perforated Nevada Leather ZCW Cold Weather Package ZLS Luxury Seating Package ZPP Premium Package ZPS Premium Sound Package 300 Space Saver Spare 232 Soft Close Automatic Doors 610 Heads Up Display 6NR BMW Apps Its the wife's car so things can easily change!! I saw the LED lights last night against Xenon's and although cool looking, the light output seemed the same to me although traffic signs seemed better lit in the distance. I can't see the value and won't get it at resale so its staying off for the time being. |

As for the LED lights, I do think they are a little brighter, but I just think they make the car look better at night. You are probably right about resale though. Although, if you are already thinking about resale you should definitely add the 3rd seat in the back. That one will hurt you if you don't have it. Possibly on value, but definitely demand. Even BMW stated somewhere they expect 75-80% of all X6's to have it. I think my dealer might have said he hadn't seen anyone not get it. It's just another way to milk out another $350. I wouldn't have even bought the X6 if that wasn't an option though. Same thing kept me from buying a Panamera. It's not often you need room for a 5th person, and its typically a short distance, but when you need it, you really need it.

She is pushing for the 3 seat option but everyone we have hauled around in the 2010 X6 has been so happy with the rear seats compared to the X5 and the 3 seat configuration reminds me of the totally uncomfortable seats in the X5.
Still thinking about it! |

My previous screwed up order hit the dealers lot today. Stopped by to take a look and definitely love the color. The inside with the sport package was the only thing they got wrong. Still if you know anyone interested here is the link to it. http://www.schompbmw.com/new/BMW/201...a87d050a2c.htm
Brad, my previous order and yours must have been on the same truck. Congrats on the new ride! |

Thanks, if only I were there to enjoy it. At least they have time to put on the clear bra and pointless paint and interior protection. Make that partially pointless. I'd do it again for the 7 year warranty on interior stains. Apparently they don't realize dog drool, vomit, and diet coke stains are covered. I hope your wait is short, but apparently the price was right. I'm going to make due with my free upgrade to an X5 at Avis until Thursday.
