N55 Water Pump Ground Bolt Upgrade
I saw this FCP blog posting last year, and bought the upgraded bolt.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/blog/bmw-n55...lt-replacement Finally got around to it yesterday! And whatdayouknow, the original one sheared off as I tried removing it! Moment of panic as there was no way I would be able to get the broken part extracted without some major time sink. I have no idea why it's there, but there is another threaded bolt hold just above the original one. Maybe BMW knew this was an issue so included the second one in the casting and machining of the block!?!?!? I cleared out the threads with some carb cleaner and the new bolt spun right in. Not sure where all that oil is comign from... Would it have sheared on its own at some point? Can't say! I don't see any oxidation on the break, so looks fresh there. Anyway, glad I upgraded and just throwing it out there in case anyone doesn't know about it. |
