2011 E70 X5---need dimensions of rear BMW roundel emblem--I think it's 78mm

Some lowlife pried off my rear BMW emblem of my 2011 E70 X5's hatch. The chrome trim remains, but the central blue/white emblem is gone. I measured edge to edge and got 78mm. It sits inside the inner ring.

All the ones I see on Ebay have two lateral guide pins on back but there are no guide holes in the chrome surround. So I suspect I need a smooth-backed one.

Can anybody provide an OE part number, or other useful information? I only need the round insert, not the entire assembly.

TIA!
Greg

Try this part number. 51147157696. I found it on realoem.com

My wife bought me similar to what you've found from Ebay and it does have the 2 prongs also. Videos I've watched on YouTube about the repair show the entire center chrome peice coming off. Found them on Amazon for $30ish.

The posts above seem to point to the entire assembly with chrome surround. Just need the actual emblem insert. I'm looking on the RealOEM site and see several badge parts--can anybody confirm one of these part numbers are for just the round emblem insert?

Thanks,

There are two Roundel emblems...#1 (is for the hood)...and #2 is for the rear Roundel on the tailgate. There is no "emblem insert".

Perhaps the part that you see leftover in your tailgate needs to come off, too. And then replaced with a complete/whole rear Roundel that hasn't separated and come apart. You may also want to pick up new grommets, too...because they normally are a use once item...you don't want to find out that you lost your new Roundel on the highway because the old grommet didn't secure the new emblem to the vehicle.

Well, I get that there are 2 parts----somebody pried off one piece--my insert--which is 78mm. The chrome surround remains in place. There is an adhesive pad stuck to the chrome base as well, so obviously there are 2 pieces. The emblem adheres with a stickem pad.

My preference is to simply stick another round emblem onto the existing chrome surround and NOT replace the entire assembly. Surely this piece is available separately?

Why would it be available...BMW Roundels are located on the hood, trunk and tailgate...and occasionally on the side (C or D pillar). These Roundels don't have a smooth back...they have prongs/nibs/nubs/etc that get inserted into something with a small hole that uses a grommet to secure it to the vehicle so that it doesn't get easily pulled off, blown off, or brushed off the car under normal/daily circumstances like car washes, rain storms, driving fast on the highway, etc.

If it was available separately...it would be listed in the part database...and I don't see it when I look at the part database diagram and part nbr index below the diagram...do you?

If you had the part the came off...you could try gluing it back on. But if you don't have the missing part...you'll either need to buy the whole thing...or create it yourself by finding a Roundel that is the same diameter, then grinding the "nibs" off the back so that it is smooth...then put enough adhesive on the original part still on your vehicle and stick your reworked Roundel with the nibs ground off of it in place.

Perhaps you can find some aftermarket peel & stick Roundel that is the correct size...but you'll probably need to clean off the old adhesive still stuck to the remaining part so that the new peel and stick Roundel will fit smoothly in place.
