X6 Voltage

Whilst driving today, I noticed my window go up just a tad slower than usual. I've had no warnings and have gone through the msg's on the OBC, nothing at all about battery.

My battery is an AGM, registered and fitted at a specialists - about a year old, so should be OK, no issues starting the car up. I was abit concerned about the window, so I plugged in a cigarette lighter battery gauge. That was showing 12.6V, I had been driving for an hour. I thought the voltage seemed a bit on the low side.

About 8 hours later , I started it up again and the voltage on the gauge said 14.4 utpo 15 for a second and then steady at 14.4 I drove around for about 10 minutes after which the voltage dropped to 13.6 and stayed there, for the next 5 minutes. Then I parked up.

Should I be concerned about this ? Can it be an indication of alternator / battery fault ?

thx in advance.

if you re 100% sure of the window mechanism has no problem or the dirt among those parts that seals the window.. well first of all if you re not planning any road trip pretty soon, i d not take any action yet after seeing window rolling oddness.. looks like an alternator problem more likely though..

voltage should be 13 and above whilst engine is running thats for sure.. there are ways to check the alternator and battery.. but it should be under on more exaggerated circumstances like no start up.. like unplugging the the positive cable on the battery while engine is running.. if engine dies its an alternator problem if not battery.. in your case since you can see the voltage with that gauge, voltage should go up when you rev the engine.. if it doesnt go up or goes up less than 0.1v its an alternator problem for sure..

thanks yco

Driving around today - the readings were strange - starting up the car the reading was 11.8, then went up to 12.3, driving for around 5 minutes hey went up to 14.4 then dropped suddenly to 12.2. The car itself felt fine, driving was it was normal no issues noticed - only these readings.

I'm thinking maybe the alternator voltage regulator. I'll take it into the shop on the weekend, see if they can spot anything.
