locking lugnut help

wheel lock key broke off on the wheel lock lugnut, I've read you just hammer on a socket and you can take it off, now for those of you that have had the issue what size socket did you use?

Well Ive tried a 21mm and 22mm 12pt deep socket and I couldn't hammer it on, 24mm is to big so im going to buy a 23mm socket, if that doesn't work i guess im going to have to pay a shop to take it off

There are plenty of things like this available:
https://www.amazon.com/Shankly-Twist.../dp/B076WQMSVB You can buy single ones too vs a set you may only use one time...

Other wise, you find a socket one size smaller and you can use metric or SAE to get there. Make it a deep socket, then hold socket over lug, keep fingers safe... Pound it on, getting at least 1cm or more on there, and try to crank it off.

A side, the hammer you use, makes a world of difference too. You need mass. A standard claw type hammer for home use ain't gonna cut it. Either a 2-3lbs deadblow you're gonna whack with Thor's arm, or a steel mallet. You need to hit it with authority a few times to get it going.

If it's a good quality socket, it should hold fine. Cheap steel, will probably crack or shatter. Make sure to wear eye protection.

I have a set of these extractors from small nut size to large lug nut size. Has saved me many times on stripped nuts/Allen key bolts over the years. A must have in the draw.

Take a picture to post. I had this happen and the BMW locks have rotating exterior to prevent the socket/hammer method from working. You have to drill it out and extract it. I ended up taking mine to a shop and they tore up the wheel but got it off. I haven't used locks since.

I had to drill mine out. Start with a small bit to get a pilot hole then increase the bit size unlit the head falls off. Takes about 30mins.

broke my wheel lock... https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=550275

If you're hammering a socket over the lug then tighten the other bolts as much as possible within reason. Also jacking the truck up to remove most of the suspended weight from the wheel helps.

finally took care of my issue, like someone posted above, I took it to a wheel shop and they used a set of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Shankly-Twist.../dp/B076WQMSVB

took them about 10minutes and cost me $15, wheel wasn't damaged. They made it look simple.
