Panoramic sunshade pieces separated

So we all know that the sunshade for the panoramic sunroof on the e70 is two pieces and somehow today the two pieces separated and I have no idea how to get them back together. Ill push the button to detract the sunshade and it works fine going backwards, but when I push it again to bring it forward to the closed position, only the front half moves and the rear half is stuck in the roof liner. I can pull it out manually, but I cannot figure out how to reattach the two back together. Thoughts?

You probably figured this out already but the glass can come out from the top side. Then you should have a good view of the back side of the shade.

Oh sweet, I didn't know this and I appreciate you letting me know. Do you know of any write ups of the procedure to do this or do you happen to know how invasive it might be?

I have not done it on an E70 yet but the E90 was easy. Just pull off the rubber side pieces shown in your pictures and remove the screws. The glass then comes out the top. E70 alignment will be more difficult so only do this if you run out of ideas. There are some youtube videos on E70 sunroof removal. You probably can see a lot just by looking down through the glass so start there.

Ya I tried just looking through the glass and can't really see enough to be able to trouble shoot it. I watched a couple of those videos and I'll probably give the removal a shot since t seems pretty straight forward. Thanks for the advice

Have you been able to find a fix for this? I have the same issue with my car and I tried out multiple ways to bind the two parts together (without opening the sunroof), but failed to fix. Would be great to know if someone else was lucky enough.

Clips

I just bought set of clips off of eBay, they have them available now. I am wanting to follow this thread in the hopes someone answers the latest question on how this is best performed, if it can be done in vehicle with sunroof panels still installed?

How'd You find those clips? Need the same part for a E91 (they share same pano assembly), and I can only source the plastic arms in a kit for $180!

To replace them, you only need to remove the top glass and the smaller part of the shade. The clips could be slipped on into the first share by removing the screws that hold the shade to the tails and sliding the shade slightly forward while the tails maintain in place.

If you manage to install these, post up how you did it. I tinkered a bit but quit as I didn’t have the right tool to remove the rear glass

Can anyone please advise is it possible to remove the front section of the sun shade in the moonroof without having to remove or drop down the whole headliner?

FWIW the headliner isn’t as awful to loosen or remove as I first thought. I posted someone else’s headliner DIY link and added some notes in the roof rail removal DIY below. GL.
