X6 40d Smoke from behind the engine... See clip

Hi,

I'm booked in with the mechanic for Monday morning but wondering if I'm safe to keep driving over the weekend, short journeys only. And also, could this be a serious issue?

I noticed a burning smell in the car for the first time a few weeks back. It was faint and happened a couple of times since. However today, after having to brake very hard the smell became much stronger and I had a little smoke coming in through the heater vents. I opened the bonnet a took the video clip below. To me it smells like burning rubber or oil. The car just sailed through it's NCT (MOT) last week. No noticable issues with performance or handling. No unusual noises.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks,

Dan.

looks like a coolant leak with the smell etc. completes the story.. it can go worse easily so need to do something about it asap..

1/ oil dipping on exhaust pipe.
2/ something with circulation crankcase ventilation pipes ...
3/ open oil cap see if smoke volume change
