I am looking at a 2011 X5 35i local to me as an upgrade for my wife. I am new to the X5 world but currently own an E90 335i and owned an E36 328i in the past.

I am curious on current market pricing and what price I should be shooting for negotiation wise.

-Listed for $14,500 at Local BMW Dealership
-N55 xDrive X5
-87,000 miles
-Black Sapphire Metallic exterior
-Dakota Oyster interior
-Non-Sport Package

I appreciate it.

Maybe about $500 over priced. Call it dealer premium

Depends on the other options it has, but the price seems pretty fair to me.

14,500 sounds pretty good. Low miles, but what options?

I bought my 2011 X5 a year and a half ago for about 15k. At the time, it had 115k miles, but was loaded with options; premium sound, premium navigation, third row seats, cold weather package, etc. It's my favorite car that I've owned and been mostly reliable, had to change the cabin air fan and regular maintenance (brakes, tires, serpentine belt and pullies, head cleaning). That's the thing with BMW's, find a good mechanic (non-dealer) and keep up with the maintenance.

A good upgrade is the Avin screen. I still use the factory iDrive, but really like the bigger screen. Also do the MHD flash (if you want a little more pep in it's step).

Unfortunately, no options really. It seems standard everything. No NAV, no sport package, no technology package, etc. We took if for a drive today and it has an awful sounding belt. It sounds like it is smacking against something. I took a look and the tensioner is visibly moving and the belt has an uneven look to it. Also, the oil pan gasket and VCG seem to be leaking. Really disappointed with the exterior as well.

Bummed how well the pictures showed the car...but seeing it in person, just disappointed.

Never buy any car, unseen ., specially BMWs

It takes jut 300-400 dollars of detailing to make it "look" new

Disappointing considering a BMW dealership was selling it. I always thought they took care of that kind of stuff (belt, tensioner, etc) so they could charge a higher price for it.

Good luck with the search!

A CPO'd BMW is a very safe bet - to qualify for CPO the vehicle must pass a long list of condition and mechanical checks. I bought my CPO'd 50i sight unseen and had it shipped to me from out of state, was in tip top shape when it arrived and I'm super OCD.

Yah, keep searching. There's a gazillion E70 35i's on the market, though most are the Premium trim. If you're willing to ship a vehicle, and have a decent budget, the options are pretty much endless IMO. Unless you want 35i w/ M Sport, 3rd row, Adaptive Drive, ACC or other rare options...or a 50i/X5M, then the search options shrink fast.

Where are you located? I know a dealer who sells lots of x5s down in SoCal, that are usually 1-2 owners and well maintained.
Edit: I see it says Michigan, so might be too far for you but if you want a link lmk.

Yep, Michigan. To be honest, after looking at the X5 in person, it seems to not fit our needs. We were really hoping to get a 3rd row and it is really crunched in the back in an X5. Some may say the X7, but we aren't looking to spend that much. Also, the seats do not fold down flat completely flat. We own a business and haul our equipment in the cabin.

Does anyone have suggestions on vehicles? My wife is looking at the Ford Explorers, but I was hoping to get another BMW lol. We really need 3 rows, seats to fold flat for cargo, tow package, and roof rack. :

E70 X5 3rd row is pretty tight but very useful if the right aged people are back there. Specifically very small adults & kids that are out of booster seats but not full grown teenagers. They've worked great for us over the years but my kids and their friends are older and much taller now than when we 1st purchased it in 2014, and it's pretty tight back there now. Remember w/ the 3rd row option, the 2nd row seats do slide forward so you can create more room back there, though at the expense of those riding in the 2nd row.

2nd row seats fold pretty close to completely flat, can't imagine you'd get that much more equipment in there if they went completely flat?

Good luck in your search. Not many cool 3rd row vehicles on the market IMO. Even the new G05 X5 doesn't offer a 3rd row. Was supposed to in the 40i only, but still not an option and they've been building them since last summer/fall.

No minivan lol! I would consider a Ford Flex, just because it looks unique to me. But Suburban or Yukon, Tahoe, etc. seem to be good choices; however, their prices are much higher even with higher mileage.

Was definitely kidding about the minivan but as others have said, vehicles with a "useable" third row that are actually enjoyable to drive are few and far between. Can always reliably boost the Tahoe lol

I must have forgot to mention we are looking to spend less than $20k.

That certainly would fit our criteria though.
