Nice looking truck.
You know I love the LED headlights and the OEM splitter...
and the stance is spot on!

Got any sound clips of the exhaust?

Thanks gixxer! I've followed your build for a while now your car always looks on point

I'll try to get a sound up after I get it back from the shop

Update! Bad news, unfortunately my car is headed to the mechanic on Wednesday.

My car is smoking pretty bad out of the exhaust during idle and while accelerating in 1st/2nd gear. It seems to only happen once the car is fully warmed up. It's been an issue for a little while now, but its starting to get really bad (lots of smoke now)

I'm really hoping its not a blown head gasket because that'll cost upwards of $6k to fix I really don't think it is because the coolant levels are normal. Best case scenario its a blown turbo and I just have it/them repaired and upgraded by Pure Turbos.

So this could go one of two completely different ways... really really shitty (head gasket)... or actually not all that bad because now I have a legitimate reason to upgrade my turbos (which I was planning on doing anyways)... so we shall see

Have injectors been changed? You will want to have index 11 or higher. This could contribute to your smoking issue if they haven't been changed to the later version. There is an open recall or Service Bulletin to replace them at no cost.

There's also an open airbag recall and another one on the Front Propeller shaft as well. You may want to take the M to your local BMW dealer and have them check these items out and sorted out at no cost to you.

I'm also assuming that you accomplished any BMW software update before installing the tune?

Yeah all of the injectors have been changed to the updated index version. I actually replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs, and fuel injectors recently so thats all new. I replaced it a few months ago when I was having misfire issues.

I still need to contact BMW about the airbag and driveshaft because I've heard/read some horror stories about both of those, I've just been putting it off.

All of the mods are going to be put on hold until I get this thing running the way its suppose to. I knew when I bought this car that it was going to require heavy maintenance. My previous car was an e63 m6 and the one before that was an e46 m3 both of which required a lot of maitenance as well. Its just a BMW M thing I guess...

This X5M takes the cake though. Unless you're ready to spend $10k+ to keep this thing running, I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone.

Really too bad, such a nice ride you have there, all the right mods. Curious how many miles are on there to have a problem like that?

Thanks man I appreciate it! The car currently has 57,7XX on it.

Just heard back from the mechanic and he diagnosed it as bad valve seals.

Pretty much just as costly as a head gasket going to have to revalve the cylinder heads which will be about a 50 hour job since they have to pull the engine and everything

In total its going to cost $5,500 which is a pretty great deal considering it'd be about a $12,500 job at the dealer...

He's a great mechanic who only works on M cars so I'm confident that it is indeed the valve seals. He said it's a fairly common issue with all of the BMW v8 engines (n63, n63tu, and older models that I forget the names of)

But overall definitely a sad day

I couldn't have said it better myself!

These things are a blast to drive, but NOT CHEAP to maintain. That's for damn sure.

I use a Canon 6D with a 50mm 1.4 lense and I absolutely love it!

Nice the 70D is basically the same thing. The 5D is crazy I was considering getting the mark III since the mark IV just came out, but just couldn't stomach dropping that much money. I like the versatility of the 50mm a lot. I'm still kind of a noob at photography but this lense is super easy to use.

All I can say is thank God for YouTube. You can learn just about anything on there. I learned how to use just about every function on the 6D by watching youtube videos. It's also pretty nifty for learning how other automotive photographers edit in Lightroom and Photoshop. Learned a bunch of cool tricks for editing too

She's headed to the shop this Wednesday to go under the knife.

Summary of whats being done:
- Valve stem seal kit
- Valve cover gaskets
- Head gaskets
- Timing cover gasket
- Head decked
- Head studs
- 4way valve job on heads

He's also going to take a look at all the vacuum lines to see if any need replacing. Might just ask him to rip them all out and replace them with new higher quality tubing to prevent leaks later on down the line, but that'll probably be quite a bit of labor.

I am strongly considering an E70 X5M, since I have a new addition to the family and will need more trunk space. However, the headaches mentioned are what's preventing me from getting into the E70 X5M. Why can't the Germans build these cars to be realiable!?

Because people still buy them when they aren't... and then service them at the dealer when they aren't... and then when that doesnt work... they buy a new one and do it all over again... Would you do it differently if you were them? lol

No pictures but a little update.

Ended up being bad fuel injectors, and an issue with the turbos... not valve seals.

New injectors are in. Also ordered a new set of stage 2 pure turbos to pair up with a Buger Motorsport JB4/BCM. Plus a backend flash from BMS as well. Will most likely add Meth as well once everything is tuned and running properly.

Along with m5james, I think we'll be the only stage 2 turbo e70 x5ms in the world! At least to my knowledge...

More updates to come stay tuned!
