There is a lot happening in UK as well, when my E60 M5 was broken into (they cannot drive it away but they unlocked the car and rummage through it).

Apparently, someone managed to clone the master key (remote control) from BMW and you can unlock any car with that master control. Driving away is another story...

Guys I have an iPod for sale, cheap. Contains mostly Yanni and Abba tracks. If you buy it in the next two minutes I'll throw in a charger and a nav disc for an X5.

So, it's possible.
His was an armored X5, no ordinary X5 -- and it was flatbedded, wasn't it?

Apologies to the OP, but this story sounds too fishy.

well it is possible to steal the car without a programed key fob. All you need is the key, cas, and dme from another vehicle and plug the shit in.

David Beckham's high security BMW has been stolen in Madrid, Spain.

The car was in the care of one of Beckham's employees, in the La Moraleja region of the Spanish capital. As he had forgotten to switch on the vehicle's tracking system, it has simply disappeared.

The BMW was an armour-platet one, valued at $180,000 (GBP 100,000).

Even though the police are currently looking for the precious asset, one can only imagine the English soccer's reaction.

As a source declared for The Sun newspaper, "he is gutted.. David loves this car."
"David loves his cars and he wasn't happy when he heard. He had lent the BMW to an employee who was staying near the Beckhams' home. It was parked in the street and got stolen overnight."

The silver-grey X5, which is left-hand drive and has Spanish plates, was bought after a kidnap attempt on son Brooklyn, aged six. It was parked in a street near the star's $5million mansion in Madrid when it was driven away

I would of traded the car in after the first time, but if anyone wants something bad enough they can steal it lots of ways.

My buddies X5 was stolen in front of his work one day, i talked to him the day after and then Called my brother (who works at the BMW dealer around here). firs thing my Brother said when he picked up the phone was "why is Johns X5 in our lot?"...
turns out it was his Ex girlfriend that called the Dealer and sent out the tow truck claiming to be the owner and had the X5 towed back to the Dealer..

she got the Idea from when the morons who stole my Old Ford probe out of my work parking lot, call up AAA and tell them you need the car towed cause you lost your keys..then call them and say you had to leave for work with a friend and to just drop off the car infront of your fake house..which AAA already has cause you joined them months earlier with the to be stolen cars Vin# and a fake name and fake address...
funny thing is the Tow company and AAA claimed no fault of their own when they did steal my Probe..

I found my probe three days later from driving around the allies while hitting my stock remote horn button, sure enough i heard my car beep at me from the morons garage. morons cut the After market alarm off but left the battery in which is why my stock remote still worked..and yes they pleaded guilty to Possession of stolen goods which is a Felony! I had a good idea of where to look cause there was a well known Probe owner on the block over from where the car was dropped off, he was well known for being a thieve actually.

my point of the story is they will getting into your car when and where they want! a camera setup will do nothing but catch a blurry face of the people (cameras using night vision crap led's always give a blurry crappy image). I would just trade the car in esp if you have the funds to live in a nice neighborhood, the only one who is getting the headache is you and your wife...is keeping the car really worth it?

after i got my probe back it was broken into three times and stolen again (which the police found the same day), this all happened in 2001ish, in 2003 i traded it in with 25k miles (car was a 1997) and stripped my garage of the 6 cameras and security system cause i never drove it anymore knowing what would happen to it if i did...what a headache and a waste of thought and time keeping that car was.

Do they have anything like TRACKER in the USA. That way if your car gets stolen again the cops can be on the ball very quickly indeed and hopefully catch the Bs red handed.

If the security system is anything like the late model S2000s, you can get in and get the car started without keys. There are a sequence of codes used to get the car started that only master technicians are supposed to know. (They press a couple buttons in a certain order continuously, or something like that) A friend/technician of mine, bet another friend and I $20 that he could get my friends S2000 started without his keys or splicing wires. In less than 1 minute he had it started. I BS you not! Of course he would not elaborate on how he did it. We were just in AW!

Angry X5 Stolen 2011 without keys!

Our 3yr old X5 was stolen from outside our home recently without the keys. Despite it being alarmed ect, 'they' had smashed the drivers side window & taken it!
We just have no idea as to how they could have done that without having the keys....
We also found out that our neighbour had his BMW 5 taken a few days earlier - same MO.

We both are trying to find out just how many other BMW's have been taken in the MO around the Solihull area of the West Midlands. It appears 2 other BM's were taken afew days after ours in a neighbouring suburb.

We would appreciate contact from anyone who has had the same done to them and also from recent victims in the Solihull/Warwick areas. Any ideas has to how they can:
a) break into a BMW without setting off the alarm
b) over-ride the immobiliser.
b) take a car without keys.
d) re-start the stolen car when stopped.

Never having been victims of a stolen vehicle I can appreciate what others have gone through. The stress, inconvenience, the not knowing how, or why 'your' car - (there are other very nice looking BMW's parked up in the vacinity) and now the whole new experience of going through the insurance process!

A bit related,.. friend of mine needed a spare key for his x5. Local locksmith put him in touch with an older russian man, man pulls up to his house in specially outfitted van with tons of equipment in the back. My friend is a little foggy on the details because he doesn't know much more about cars but he tells me that the man took down a few numbers inside the car, plugged something into his obd port and then made a copy of his key transponder. I didn't believe him till he showed me his new key with russian writing in the back where you would normally see english. cool stuff!
