I find the acceleration is much better in Sport mode than shifting paddles, if you push it it will just about reach rev limiter every time. I find the paddles frivolous because I have to watch the tach or let the transmission shift if you hold out too long (hence back to Sport mode). Also eventually the transmission reverts back to D mode from M after some time and certain conditions. Sport is great for me, much greater acceleration with confidence, I find the D mode to be a bit of a slug with the six cyl. motor.

Pushing the paddles puts it in manual mode, it you don't push them for a while it reverts. Sport mode just uses more aggressive shift points, I use it a lot. It's also really handy in bumper to bumper freeway traffic , you don't have to touch the brakes as often.
