RM Racing Downpipe Pics

Did not take as many pics as I intended (installed). Total install time from scratch was 8hrs or so taking my time, including R&R the vacuum pump, pressure washing the lower engine cover, and wrapping the pipes alone took a solid hour.

Alignment was great, no issues, no hurdles, no surprises. The front drivers O2 bung was off an inch but the O2 sensor was still able to clear the top shield. Even with the longer O2 bungs it triggered the CEL so I have cat'd spacers on order.

I threaded a nut onto new bolts to ensure they were straight and hit each bolt with a spot weld to secure them. The bolts I used were M8x45mmx1.25. New OEM nuts and all new gaskets.

No leaks, but yes, expect some smell when parked with engine running.

I have an x-pipe ready to get installed also.

Enjoy .

Does the area between the two o2 sensors flex?

If you still have trouble with the CEL, this might help.

I like the way you wrapped those pipes. Looks good and should stay secure.

How much louder is the exhaust and do you have factory mufflers still installed?

Thanks, it has been on for a few weeks and am still deciding whether to keep them on. I am not one for very loud exhaust systems, but will admit it is fun in a tunnel or underpass.

I have the Megan Racing exhaust which is louder than stock and now it is downright pissing off my neighbors at 4:30am. I do not blame them. I am going to look at other exhaust options anyhow, whether I decide to keep them on or not.

Your bolts don't seem to be welded on straight... I had the same issue and it was a mofo to get them to fit right. I basically had to bend the welds with some force.

Mine slipped right in, zero issues. I took the measurements and welded them myself.

As a follow-up, I have put a couple thousand miles on these and so far no issues. The passenger primary O2 CEL still triggers even though I have an O2 extender with replaceable inserts. I am ordering the tiny cat'd adapters and will report back. Some smell here and there, especially when downwind at a light/stop. Else great and the seat of the pants is noticeable.

You say they fit well, I'll take your word for it.

These are said to be steel, so they will rust. Wonder if ceramic coating it then heat wrapping will extend their life.

Finally got them in. Very impressed with the quality and the welds are beaaaaaaautiful.

Took some measurements. The lip that meets the turbo is about 3.2", then immediately it goes to 2.859" throughout right up till the bottom flange that meets the front pipe. There it is 2.47".

That was quick shipping time considering over seas. I was eyeing this set for a while now. Let us know how it turned out. Some start up videos would be extra cool too 😎

Yep, np.

I plan to start the install on Friday. Hopefully I can get the old ones off Friday or most of the top heat shielding and then do the rest Saturday. I plan to test fit them first and then wrap them in the lava heat wrap.

I don't have access to a welder so I can't weld the bolts in place like most are doing...I hope it's not a pain to tighten the nuts in place

Halfway in. I can't get the driver side clamp on...smfh

Passenger side had to be adjusted as well to fit but works. Will try again tomorrow.

Might have to order a welder if I can't get the bolts for the flanges to fit and secure from below. Let's see...

Went to bolt up the downpipe to front pipe, the one on the passenger side you can get the right side bolt secured with a swivel wrench and then screw in the nut. But the left side is not possible. On the driver side it's impossible to do this like that.

I ordered a welder to tack weld the nut to the flange. Mocked up a ghetto jig so the bolts sit secure when I weld it and are not slanted etc.

How is your install coming along? I was thinking of getting the Project Gamma or AA Downpipes.

I'm waiting on my welder to come in so I can tack weld the bolts to the bottom flange.

Everything is delayed so let's see when it comes in... hopefully this weekend.

So, had to get a welder to tack weld the studs/bolts to the bottom flange as it's super difficult to get the nuts on otherwise. No space to hold the top bolt in place so tack welding it is the only option.

Anyway, once the bolts were welded, everything else lined up well. Just gotta be very careful getting the bolts just right and then weld it.

My welds aren't the best but they hold, lol.

Nice. Finally. Please let us know how the smell is with windows down and up after you drive it.

Will do. I simply checked for exhaust leaks yesterday and then took it off the ramps and parked it. Will button the heat shield back up this week and then go for a drive.

It's a pain to do this install on ramps but it's definitely doable.
