107k for 2011 not bad for daily

Had this in the family for about 12 months. We knew this car would be a nightmare if we had to take it to a shop so we bought it cheap. 170K miles on an 2007 3.0 here...

Had 4 to complete 4 minor repairs:

1. Went into limp mode, downshifted and wont upshift. turned out to be a faulty crankshaft sensor $70

2. Intermittent no crank, starter $100 for rebuilt (thought we'd replace the battery at the same time, $150)

3. CEL led to Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid $100

4. Looked like a radiator failure or cooling hose failure, but turned out to be an expansion tank leak at the seam, it seemed ~$60 for Behr

Looking to get a few things done:
1. ATF drain and fill (a few times in the next few months)
2. non-fun flat tires all around, lowered the psi to close to minimum spec and ride is decent
3. 70% front window tint, might DIY
4. rear fender extensions because these 20x11" wheels stick out a bit even with a 2" drop

2009 BMW X5 3.0i with 105k, bought in 2013 with 55k miles. Besides regular maintenance, brakes, and tires I had the following fixed/replaced:

Water pump and thermostat replaced at 75k
Battery at 76k
Coils and spark plugs replaced at 80k
Blower Relay at 88k
Bushings at 94k
Taillight at 97k
Driver mirror at 100k

I also had transmission fluid/filter, diff fluid, transfer case fluid changed at around 85k

Mostly used for a short commute to work ~3 miles each way, trips to Sierra Nevada during winter to ski, and to tow 2001 Super Air Nautique during summer.

I am planning to keep it until around 150k or so, prior to that owned 2001 BMW X5 4.4i, and that one was way less reliable and was going through brakes and tires to the tune of 15-20k miles.

Got a 2009 x5 3.0 with 162k on it it.

Parts replaced:
Been through 3 water pumps and 3 thermostats
Cooling system hoses and plastic connectors as they seem to granande randomly
Cooling system expansion tank
All 6 ignition coils twice
Rear suspension airbags twice
A new air bag compressor
Rear main seal replacement
Oil pan gasket
Oil level sensor
Rear hatch tail light assemblies, water got in and ate away the electrical traces
Valve cover gasket
Both vanos solenoids
Replaced the starter twice already
Eccentric shaft sensor
Camshaft position sensor
Transmission mechatronics unit and seal
New torque converter
Trans filter and fluid

And all the regular maintenance stuff like oil changes and brakes and what not. I am still dealing with a issue where even after replacing the mechatronics unit and torque converter, I still have code 4F53 or generic code P0741.

I love the car but damn it’s been expensive since day 1.

2013 35I Msport Edition. Just bought a little over a month ago. I have about 101,000 miles (drove around 1400 miles so far). Was a BMW maintained vehicle it's entire life with 2 previous owners. They did the water pump, valve seals and more already. I did the front bushings and drive belt as per my INDY mechanic suggestion. Probably doing spark plugs and oil change next. But I absolutely love it. Took me a while to find one. Good luck to everyone!

Just had my X5 at the dealer for recall, and they told me that I have leaks, both valve and oil pan gaskets need to be replaced. The quoted me $3,300+, like WTF! How much did you pay to have oil pan and valve pan gaskets replaced?

Just sold mine to a guy with 137k on the clock. It served me well and I think I'll miss it, even though it had it's issues, I will still love that thing!

I did all the work myself. Got 90% of the stuff at FCP Euro. I forget how much the parts cost, I think somewhere around $30-$50 a piece.

Question

That’s amazing. What maintenance have you guys done on your car? And by how many miles?

Like transmission oil change? Transfer case or differential oil change? Coolant flush? Brake fluid change? spark plugs or coils change? Rear air bag/suspension change? Oil change interval?

Thanks.

101k miles and some change as of today

regular maintenance: oil change every 5-7k miles (Liqui Moly), spark plugs and coils were changed at about 50k miles under recall, brake fluid last was changed at 60k miles, I replaced rear air bags couple of months ago.

I haven't done transmission, transfer case or differential oil changes yet (planning to do it in the spring), coolant hasn't been completely flushed.

2012 x35d, 122K miles, previously CPO till 100K, mostly routine maintenance except for a gauge cluster (under warranty) that was VERY expensive. Now getting worried about emissions equipment....

2012 50i, Just hit 130K on Mine, bought it right at 102K on it. Since its the N63, I immediately Changed all the coils (used Eldors, the Bosch from Slovania SUCK), new plugs.

Had a bad smoking issue (think James bond smoke screen), turned out the turbos oil
return lines were clogged with coked oil (who would have thought that would happen, its not like the lines run right next to the headers in the middle of the of the V of the engine covered in heat shielding and then a engine cover on top of it or anything...oh wait....) Cleaned the lines, good to go.

Replaced the entire CCV system when it started smoking at idle, didn't fix it. SO made my own catch-can setup as I noticed there was squat for crankcase vacuum, allowing the extra blowby with a 130 on the clock to amplify the warn valve stem seals this engine is notorious for).

Now with actual Crankcase vacuum, no more light smoke at idle and oil consumption is back down to "normal" (for this engine) at a Quart every 1500-2000ish

I also changed the tranny oil & Filter (WTF is with no dipstick...nothing quite like being underneath a 5300lb vehicle while its running and oil spitting in your face because thats how "check it"..Geez and I thought I was a Redneck...bravo ZF for that one....

I plan on replacing the entire Tranny valvebody as its always had some funky shifts, will try resting the adaptations on it later with a scan tool first though and see if it can overcome its funky shifting it is doing now, nothing bad, just kind irritating sometimes. I figure with 130K on the clock, a new Valvebody with all new Solenoids is prob a good idea anyway.

Its had the wastegate flapper rattle since I bought it, I just took down to rebuild them as I am also putting in downpipes, JB4, custom intake, and 98 Octane...Shooting for 600HP (or going to nuke the engine in the process, mahahahaha).

When I get her back on the road I will make a thread on everything that was done and the performance increases along the way. Work has been crazy lately so its taken longer then expected. I finished the turbos and now I am modding the downpipes to fit correctly, then wrapping them and the headers, slap in the 190 degree thermostat and then I will do a baseline on the performance increase over stock, then install the JB4 and custom intake & 100 octane and start cranking the boost until I get into the 11's..or something breaks...

I expect to have it back on the road with the rebuilt turbos and downpipes by Friday. If all goes well will create a thread on it for anyone whos interested.

Same vehicle, same mileage. Just hit 103k on my 2013 50i m-sport m-performance.

It has been a fight getting it to 100k...

2010 X5M - 123K Miles

Service:

-100K service by Fast auto (NY based racecar shop.)
-Rear air suspension air bags replaced. Both sides of the car. Both had small leaks.
-Burns oil pretty good now always carrying spare quart with me.
-Had wheels refinished.
-Currently have new squeaking bird noise from interior fan.
- Had front and rear pad and rotors replaced.
-Had hood latch replaced one day when one side of the hood wouldn't open.
-Have some wheel shake when driving. Probably need control arms done.

I love it. Still pulls pretty hard. Tows well and looks great to me.

130k miles. Just did coils and plugs. I'm a little worried about what's next to go wrong. Trying to hold on for another year. It's nice to know there are others out there feeling my pain
