As I have repeatedly stated and can be confirmed by any Euro member, the Euro hitch is made by Westfalia. I would still want some proof that BMW uses execuhitch as an OE hitch in some region.

For infrequent use, I'm very happy with my Execuhitch. No issues with it.

Both products are used as OEM Hitches by BMW.

You forgot the Curt, which will also handle 6k, and also does not require bumper cutting.

The curt is just plain ugly. I would rather cut the bumper than use the curt.

But yes the curt is a long distant 3rd option that is viable and yes it does do 6000lbs.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

The Curt is FAR less ugly than cutting the bumper up to mount the OEM unit.

I think the Curt looks good for the aftermarket hitch.

I saw your bimmer is hauling a trailer, did you install your RVstyle pin connector yourself?

I have a 4way pin flat on mine but need to convert to 7way rvstyle connector, called bmw and labor is too expensive, askin is almost 1k for labor and plus parts. It is supposed to be 2.5 hr labor fee for that only.

Just wondering if you have part number for the 7way rv style pin connector.

Thanks.

I recently (April) purchased a 2010 X5M and it has a tow hitch that I haven't seen anyone mention before (unless I missed it, which is entirely possible!).

It's an OEM hitch from BMW and comes with a multi-language instruction booklet that describes it as an "electrically pivoting tow bar".

It's hidden under the rear bumper/fender cover when not in use. When you need it, it is activated by a button hidden under the left boot/trunk cover. This swings it out from under the fender and into position where it locks. The same button swings it back under the fender. It takes about 4-5 seconds to swing out & in.

There are a couple of numbers on the back of the booklet (6 850 746 and 0102.1180.503/00). I'm not sure if these are part numbers for the booklet or the hitch - I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet. Unfortunately there's no other mention of part numbers, and no information on towing capacity etc.

I've attached some photos showing it hidden and deployed, and a couple of videos showing how it works.

Edit: I think I found some part numbers:

71 60 6 797 519 (tow coupling)
0102.0980.915 (screw set consisting of 8 pieces)
0102.1180.900 (Contents: Manual & Info)

Diagram here: https://www.bmwautodalys.lt/en/catal...203/R/A/2011/0

I really like this, although it seems to be a EU only part.

There must be something in US DOT laws that prevent this from being legal on our roads. If I had to guess there is most likely something that says the entire hitch system needs to be mounted and secured to the frame/unibody. Since this has the moving parts it could be a weaker connection to the frame.

Thanks for sharing this, I love to see technology and what is out there.

It's not an EU only thing. It's just that those dealers there happens to resell this particular unit.

Here in the US, based in GA, is Execuhitch. And they make an X5 and X5M unit. Invisihitch is pretty much the Outside US preferred product AFAIK.

I bought the BMW wire harness for $320 and installed it my self and then had ECU Programing in Calgary hook up the two wires to the fuse panel and program the trailer module for $150. The Bmw harness comes with the 7 pin and 4 pin together. Not sure what the part # is but it might depend on what options you have.

Wowza! $320 for the harness alone?

I'm not sure where all this pricing variability is coming from, but when I had my Curt hitch installed last year, it cost me under $600 for parts, wiring, and labor from a local shop, and they used the BMW harness. (And the PNW is notorious for expensive parts and labor.)

You must remove the bumper to get at the bolts.

For those with the Curt, what is your ball mount drop? The receiver is low so I assume 2" is a good universal drop? I know that ideally you should measure your trailer, but I'll be renting a UHaul occasionally.

Request for Installation Instructions

Hello Mr. Keith Owen !
I think your post was great and unfortunately (somehow) was completely overlooked by the forum members ! !

I believe the electrically swivelling OEM hitch is fantastic! No cutting of the rear bumper required, and very nice electric movement of the hitch to beneath the bumper when not in use ! Very clever. Look at the attached videos people!

Since, I have ordered and received the hitch and installation kit. I need the installation instructions as I am handy with a wrench and want to install it myself. The WebETK site says the kit does not come with installation instructions and to download it from the ASAP site. Have you done this, and if you have the install instructions, can you post the PDF? Or anyone else for that matter? Thanks to all and good post Owen.

Thanks again.

I flip mine to give it a good 2" raise. Drop will be too low for most trailers.

(FWIW, my X5 is also lowered on H&R springs/rear links)

The cover on the diffuser is factory. I am assuming the X5M has one as well. Just remove the 3 screws to remove the cover and and pop in the ball mount. When you are done just remove the ball mount and replace the cover. The Execuhitch install is the same as for the BMW OE hitch even the wiring harness that comes with it is an OE BMW harness.
