Modified stock exhaust for X5M.

Wanted to share my project I did with the stock exhaust this week.
First as you going to see I open the shell (pic #1) there I found two mufflers one bigger and one smaller. The smaller one is the side of the valves which would be used once the car would be on the M mode.
What I did is I kept the smaller muffler but moved it where the bigger muffler was and eliminated the bigger one. On the place of the smaller muffler I put straight pipe (pic #5).
Sound of the exhaust very happy, I had the eisenmann race and honestly I like this one more since I can even use the factory valves.
By the way got one for sale if anyone intrested.
I will also try to post a video this weekend.

Thank you.

Great work! How much louder is it than stock in regular mode, and then in M mode?

Any drone?

Thanks for the dissection of the stock exhaust! I can't imagine eisenman, megan, or any other axel back exhaust system sounding any different than this mod. Way to save us $4k!!!

Now someone should dissect a megan or akrapovic and see what the REAL differences are.

Question for welding in the straight tube in-place of the muffler. Do you need to cut open both TOP and BOTTOM of the muffler housing in-order to weld it properly? I would prefer to only butcher the top of the housing so it will be hidden when I re-install it back on.

Good question,

also:

Do you happen to have a picture of what the welded together muffler case looks like after youwere done? Great job by the way!

To do it right you must cut both top and bottom. I wouldnt care that much it doesnt even look that bad once you weld it the right way.
If you care that much try to follow lines on the muffler so the weld hides better.

You could probably do it either way. The E92 M3 guys have been doing this for years, and a lot of them only cut one side so that you cannot tell the suitcase has been modified visually from underneath.

Search "OEM Exhaust Mod" on any E92 M3 forum and you'll get lots of hits.

I was attempting to do the same thing with the Suitcase on my 50i M Sport, but the shop advised just to do magnaflows (the same shop has done the OEM mod on several M3s...)

The main reason why I did it to be able to use the valves and that was the key for me and also not spend 4K for a system
