Came across this thread while trying to find information about the MAF location so I could take it and clean it. Based on my having black spot in the tips, even little speckles on the back and now a CEL that I cant seem to delete, it looks like this might be my real issue. Problem is I just bought out two weeks ago with 64k on it from a Jeep dealership, I'm at 65k and I didn't any kind of warranty. One person mentioned they got a courtesy replacement at 70k but they didn't list what model year their X5M was.

Is the software upgrade related in anyway to the injectors? I've been looking online to replace my Index 7 with Index 11 but your comment could throw an extra twist into getting this going.

Looks like this answers my above question, so now I need to find out how to remove the fuel rail.

Has anyone looked up to see what the differences are between the indexes? I've found a wrecked F10 M5 so I'm hoping they're plug and play since www.realoem.com says these injectors are used on multiple BMW turbo vehicles but often sellers don't list the index number.

Thanks for the link, Cattivo. I've checked on here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=13537585261 which then took me to eBay where I've found them for as little as $30 used. I just don't wanna spend $2000 and then they release Index 12. I'm not even sure this is my issue, but it seems to relate and the mpg gains might justify me doing it anyways.

Only have a quantity of two, but that's a start. Of course they don't take returns on the wild chance their compatibility list is wrong.

Interesting, looks like our fuel injectors are the same ones used on a Rolls Royce Ghost.

Found a seller who claims they're rebuilt to -12, but I've asked for documentation providing such.

I haven't used my endoscope to look inside the heads yet, but the 3rd spark plug on the drivers side was still wet with fuel. All much injectors are Index 07 so once again I'm just going to consider this as an upgrade for more power, better mileage and no more soot on my tailgate.

I wonder if my injectors need to be replaced... My car is an early build 2010. I haven't looked at the Index number on the injectors yet, but I'm guessing it's probably 7 or 8. My car starts fine, usually fires up within a second or two. I installed a new muffler last week and after about a week of not washing the car, the inner tips were pretty black... pictures attached. My car still has cats btw. Is that a sign that the injectors are no good?

(i know the muffler was sitting too low, I've since installed the correct exhaust hangers and now it's perfect)

Mine drove great (my 2001 X5 was fun, had a tune pushing it to around 325hp, but this was definitely an upgrade) right up until this day. I did notice the heavy sooting on the way exhaust tips when I first bought (it was only on the outers, very obvious in pics, only to discover both diverter valves were missing vacuum lines for M mode), so after driving it the way I drive for a while, all the tips were sooty. I also noticed that I've have peppering all over the back (mines Alpine White), and while it started perfectly, it has the worst sounding cold morning idle...forget moving it during that idle as well because it'd lurch until the idle went back to normal. I'd read that the crappy cold idle and ticking like a diesel was normal, but now that I'm proceeding with their replacement, I'm curious how things will be afterwards.

As for checking their index numbers, you can actually see them from both sides if you look...the ones nearest the firewall are the easiest due to angle.

Xbimmers is a subforum of other countless subforums, which all seem to operate together across various BMW models because I'm not asked to sign in each time I'm on a 3 series, 5 series, etc forum. Feel free to search my screen name as I've been replying on countless other threads, but long story short is that these injectors used across multiple platforms and the 3 series guys have had great luck using brand new SMP injectors purchased through Rockauto, which after a 5% discount would be just over $900 for all 8, then apparently each decoupler needs to be replaced at the same time, which are about $8 a piece. I've also searched on eBay and have found two sellers, which combined, will sell 8 used index 11 injectors @ $35 a piece. Used injectors means new gaskets at the tip @ $3 each, the same decouplers and then no matter who you purchase your injectors through, they need to be coded through NCSExpert, which you'll read about on the 3 series forums using a tool and software that's about $100.

yeah i read about the coding, but the 3 series gets coded through INPA, which doesn't work on E70. unless there's a way to make INPA work....

I bought an old Dell D620 laptop years ago that was basically turned into a GT1 machine for coding when I converted my 740iL to a 6spd. As for coding on the E70, the guy created my laptop is finding a solution for us as we speak...I honestly don't know if there are other options though.

I can code my car just fine with NCS Expert. I just haven't tried getting INPA to work. Perhaps there is a way to code the injectors with NCS?

Honestly I have no idea how to do ANY coding whatsoever and the heads I have don't talk to my E70. I'm currently waiting for the guy I bought my laptop from to figure things out, which frustrates and worries me because once I get these in, I'm not sure how the car will handle them without coding. I've done key options (windows up via remote, power fold mirrors when locking, etc) via an app called Carista and my phone using a generic OBDII dongle, but that's it.

I made a video of the cold start this morning. Does it seem normal? Don't mind the water shooting out, I washed the car last night.

Sounds slow to crank over (battery old?), but otherwise sounds fine to me.

You said you can code via NCS so what heads, tools, software are you using? Also, look at these and see if you find these options for coding. I've got this laptop but it's not seeing my car, so if I'm forced to spend even more money, I don't have a choice and need to decide now since injectors are in the mail.
