My mpg is consistently been around 15..

But now I feel like it's not pulling as hard as it used to.. Not sure of it's my paranoia....

Forgive my ignorance: but what is this service bulletin that keeps being mentioned??

I just picked up a 2012 X5M with about 31k miles in White. I have already had long cranks/rough starts, soot all over the bumper, rough idle. I have already brought it in once and they held it for 3 days but of course could not reproduce anything. They are also trying to tell me the black bumper is normal. Somehow I don't think people paying 120k+ for M5/6s will accept their car looking terrible like that.

I am bringing it back in but I feel like they won't find anything again... Not sure where to go from here.

There is a bulletin for it I believe. Show them posts as confirmation if you need to. Go to a different dealer that you know or a fellow member knows and will give you the service needed. It took me two visits to confirm it was in fact the injectors. A CEL will eventually pop up in the next 1500-2500 miles or sooner. Mine did right at 31k and then again a few times in last 4k miles.

I had mine replaced last month at around 70k miles ..my symptoms same as OP ..rough idle and CEL on cold starts . In CA all we have is 91oct. BMW NA did a goodwill replacement on mine as out of warranty the original quoted cost was north of 8k. I don't drive to hard but now consistently getting 19-20mpg as I do mainly highway miles as this is daily driver for me . These injectors are definitely issue as BMW must have fixed in new S63 engine in M5 as you don't hear about these issues from that forum.. Press your service advisor to contact BMW NA as they can do something

I went to them last weekend. Told them about the service bulletin and the symptoms I am having. I have the service scheduled for Apr 21st. He was aware of the issue with the N63 but was unsure about the S63. Will keep u guys updated on the progress. My SA is pretty good and I have a good working relationship with him so far. I am hoping that they will replace it without much hassle.

having another issue: occasionally when on highway I have "TPMS malfunction error" pop up. It lasts few seconds and disappears. Initially thought it was the cold weather...but had it happen to me last week when the temp was around 60+.

So I had already scheduled another appointment because the bumper was coated in black soot. Then the night before it through the CEL.

Dropped off yesterday. They checked the CEL and are replacing all 8 injectors and plugs as well as doing a software update.

Got the car back this afternoon. So far it is running a whole lot smoother and fires up so much quicker.

Haven't been able to really get on it yet to see if it feels any faster.

For some reason my dealer thought it was appropriate to drive it 29 miles when replacing the injectors though, seems a bit excessive...

Does anyone have a cost on this? I see the one quote was $8,000 a$1,000/injector seems a little over the top.

^ Mines was replaced under warranty so no prices on my invoice. I believe there was someone on here that was going to DIY their injectors in case ssomeone is out of warranty.

The injectors alone are 250 each

They were also going to replace coils and sparks in my quote

Ultimately BMW NA covered however the SA did mention job is several days as they also need recoding so a lot of labor costs were in my original quote

You can do this in 1 day easily. BMW just makes it a huge deal for no reason. You do need to recode the injectors for the flow rates. In this engine it is actually easier to get to the injectors because of its "reverse" design. No idea how the hell they quoted 8K.

Have you done a set? I know my Indy shop said hey wouldn't touch them and I should take it to BMW... I am very DIY capable but when a shop that works on X5Ms on a regular basis says they won't touch the injectors it scares me a bit, are any special tools required?

I just did a 175 mile road trip. Averaged 22.1MPG

Was able to mash on her a bit as well, so smooth on the power delivery. So different then before the replacement.

Glad to hear. As I've said before this is a must. Bug your SA til they get it done.

Yeah its really not difficult. The only reason I could think of for not doing it is they might not have the coding abilities. I dont think autologic can do it, you need the BMW tools.

Unfortunately my M just crossed 55K so Ill have to take care of this on my own. I dont have any misfire codes or anything like that so the dealer wasnt going to do it. I dont have soot either just crank times can be a bit long.

It's easy to see the part number. It's also based on build year. #11 is what you want

Got the "reduced power CEL" today in M mode. For the past few days noticed reduced responsiveness on acceleration. Felt like a exaggerated turbo lag...

Called my SA. I had a scheduled appmnt next Monday. It's going to sit in the garage until then...

Does not happen in non M mode with normal driving load...

My SA told me that I'm the fourth X5M this year with the same problem

All 8 being replaced on my 2011 X5 today, all 8 were throwing codes. I had the iDrive malfunction/reduced power warning on Saturday.

Just out of warranty at 56K, but my awesome dealer is taking care of it!
