misfiring issues are usually either due to a vacuum leak or due to a bad coil pack. unfortunately, you need the car to be running to diagnose either.

I've moved the coils around before I took it in to get it diagnosed and the fault codes still came back to the same two cylinders. Index-12 injectors have about six months on them, new plugs maybe two at the most.

I'm hoping it's vacuum at this point or my turbo bit the dust.

Any issues starting?

Could be fuel delivery ... I would have the pumps checked out if you haven't already.

The vehicle starts and idles without any problems. A mechanic buddy even thinks that my transmission could be slipping. The car is at the shop getting diagnosed so I'll report back as soon as I find something out, hopefully as early as today.

Where's the best place on these engines to hook up to vacuum test?

Good question because I smoked through both turbo inlets as well the two vacuum canisters (they look like little mini kegs that'd fit in the palm of your hand) based off a suggestions from a BMW mechanic buddy. Sadly I found no leaks even though I wanted to, then oddly I visually still found a crack and oil leak in the middle of the crossover pipe...why it didn't smoke from there is beyond me.

Well, finally got the car back. 1 injector completely failed, 5 are below spec, and 2 passed the test. Injectors are index-12 and about 6 months old. Purchased from Rock Auto (Intermotor).

Was told that injectors were cheap because they sell injectors that fail spec from factory. Said they've even seen Index-8 stamped as Index-12 before.

Vehicle passed all the tests besides the injectors, couldn't perform boost test due to injectors not cooperating.

Well crap...I've yet to replace all the CCV lines and vacuum lines in hopes to eliminate the reduced power warnings I'm still getting, but that sucks to hear about the Intermotor injectors since that's what I'm running :-/ My index 12's looked EXACTLY the same as the Genuine OEM index 7's that they failed, so I'm not where they're getting their information about indexs being labeled wrong, so I can only hope that's dealership talk in an effort to continue charging 3-4x as much as the ones I got from Rockauto. Reading over 3 series boards, who use the same injectors we do, have been using Rockauto ones for years longer and no issues as best as I can tell.

This wasn't at the dealer, it was an indi. So I'm wondering if I took it to the dealer and acted stupid, if they would change them under the recent recall, or whatever was issued.

I assume its a recall that the other guys have been taking advantage of.

Wait, you didn't let the dealership replace them? The only reason I did mine myself was because it was before BMW admitted to their failures. I'd even written BMW NA directly, exchanged a few emails and phone calls to ultimately be told to kick rocks, then 3 weeks later the campaign came out

Same here, although I had no contact with BMW. I DIY'd them and had the indi code them.

In other words, no warranty so I'm looking at $4K to get them done right this time around.

I've also kept the old injectors, so if push comes to shove and they give me shit. I'll put the old ones back in and let them at it.

I lucked out in that my buddy works at the BMW dealership, so he came to my house and helped me swap them out and reinstalled my catless downpipes inside of 8hrs. When BMW finally admitted their fault, we worked it out where I took it to the dealership, still got my service loaner and he used the allotted book time to do other work on my truck, which is when he found the leaking vacuum pump. I saved my old injectors as well, he swapped them out for me and I sold them locally for the same price as I bought the Rockauto ones to recoup my costs. On the wild chance you can work something out at the dealership, maybe you can do the same or you can ship your defective ones to me, I'll swap them with my buddy and mail them back to you.

How'd they test the injectors to verify which ones failed, etc? I was getting black peppering all over the backend then eventually I couldn't even get the truck to run when my index 7's failed. I've got no codes, just the nagging and random reduced power warning that I'm hoping will go away when I finally swap out the CCV and vacuum lines.

I appreciate that. I may try to return them under warranty first and see what happens. I guess these were throwing codes, they said that they tested the flow somehow. Don't ask me how.

Can you check with your mechanic buddy if he knows how they do the injectors? Do they only replace old index ones or all? I suppose that's probably up to the SA.

I'm really not sure, but somehow they can determine the value of flow.

Anyhow...my car falls within that injector SB so I made an appointment to take it in. I just hope they don't give me shit for my index-12 injectors. Probably going to keep my mouth shut until they say something. I hope they don't.

they probably will. My car has index 11 injectors. The dealer looked at them and said that they are the "latest" version and don't need to be replaced. it seems they are only replacing old index 8,9 injectors

Mine was built on June 2013. It's outside of the recall target of 2010 to april 2013. I have Index 11 and I'm not on the recall.

I have the cracked vent recall and just received my airbag recall though

...but are your injectors failing? Mine are failing. I hope that will make a difference.

mine has a similar build date to your's but if you observe the issue such as soot accumulation on your garage floor, force the issue with the dealer and tell them to let the master tech check it over, I had the same situation where the normal techs looked and said everything was fine, I straight up told them it's not normal, after that they found 3 of the injectors were leaking. I had my vacuum lines replaced a year from buying the car new, so all expected

The dealerships will get paid for the service, BMW needs to learn a lesson about cheaping out, so no one should be taking no for an answer.
