Thanks to Z@T for the heads up re: ebay AE.
Mine came today (took only 8 days) and was so excited to install it.
On passenger side, I had to swap the rubber bushing from OEM bulb to ebay bulb in order to sit as it should.

I could not install the driver side (took me about 45 minutes before I gave up).
Upon my research, it seams that I have to turn it to the center (clockwise) as opposed to the passenger side which I turned counter clockwise (per LUX's instructions). Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!

Can the guys who bought the ebay ones please post a pic from an angle? I think all AE straight on look good but from an angle is the real test. I have a different pair from ebay that I want to compare to and see if these are any brighter at an angle.

Thanks!

Hey,

as long as you have not the OEM LED AE's (MY 2012 or newer) you will always just have a the full brightness from the front and angle fading in brightness.

That comes from the technology and as long as they are not LED AE bars, this will always happen.

Rubber? I used the LUX install instructions and they were spot on.

However, I figured the best way to install them in the bulb slot is to look through the head light lens from the front while having the AE turned on.

You'll see the notches where you need to twist the bulb in to.

None of them look good from an angle mate. You will see a bright inner corona, but the outer one will barely light up. It's a limitation of the design, not the bulbs used.

Might be a subtle difference between X5 and X5M (same headlights as X6 and X6M). Can you confirm if both lights unhook counterclockwise?

Has anyone had/heard of any issues with heat issues or dimming with the E-Bay lights?

Also, has anyone purchased matching fog lights? If so, how do they look and do you have a link from the vendor?

That's what I was thinking. Guess I'll stick with the 40w CREE I got from ebay. No one posts pics from the side, so they all look good straight on!

If you really want to, you can always retrofit the '12+ lights. Some members have done the upgrade, so all you'd have to do is source the lights from eBay. If you really wouldn't want to mess with it (I personally wouldn't), I'd just get a pro to do it. They can probably knock it out quickly.

I finally got the driver's side replaced.
Just a note for X5M (and possibly X6 owners), you can loosen the driver's side by twisting clockwise as opposed to the passengers side which is counter clockwise.

Thanks again Z@T!

Picked up the ebay lights and they're perfect. They pair up with the xenon's well.

Took a bit of time to get the first bulb in. You need to discard the existing weather seal, because the ebay bulbs come with one.

Where did you guys stored the modules?
Feel like it will break something if I just leave it inside the headlight housing.

I just ordered a set through E-Bay from the vendor you previously purchased from. I can't wait to get them installed.

Thanks for the great post!

on the X6 Forum I have read that.

If so maybe Weisslicht is better?
What is the difference between 20W and 40W when they both have the same brightness.I was looking at ebay and there are lights that range from 20 to 32 to 40W. Is 40W better than 20W. Thanks

I've just fitted the same ebay units. Arrived in no time and barely 5 mins to fit. Not as bright as the lights in the very latest X5's but they are too bright for my taste. These units are much ,much better than the rheumy yellow stock offer in my opinion. Well worth it.

eBay LEDs

I installed these eBay 40W LEDs the other day on my X6 as Lux are out of stock... Its not too bad in terms of brightness and the colour is good - matching the Xenon HID bulb. In daylight the inner halo is bright enough to be visible, however the bigger outer halo is barely visible. The outer angle loses intensity as soon as you look at it from an angle. Seems like nothing can be done to fix brightness due to headlight design.

I have aftermarket headlights with CCFL halos on my E53 X5 and those things are ultra bright and clearly visible in daylight and keep brightness even from sharp angles. CCFL hint BMW hint.

40W Cree LED eBay link...

(they arrived in Sydney within 2 weeks!)
