Any more updates on this. I have 2011 sport package diesel. This is the one mod I am so dying to do. Just need to know if it will be plug and play on my car.

Hmmm. I'm running a 2011 M-Sport 35i, but want to do this too. Singh, is there a specific package that indicates prewiring? You still have another wheel right?

OK, I will be a diesel guinea pig for this retrofit. I have a July 2011 built 35 D with sport package. I do NOT have adaptive drive. I have an M sport paddle shift heated steering wheel on order. From what I have read here, it seems that the airbags are the same. I will give it a try and see if the paddle shifters will work.
Keep your fingers crossed for me. Wheel should arrive sometime next week.

Look What Came in the Mail today

Well, I just got the steering wheel today. I already have the sport wheel with a thick rim, but the rim on this wheel is thicker. It feels so soft when I grip it. I guess the Nappa leather is a real plus. Will be installing soon and updating. I just wish it had the tri-color stitching.

OK guys. I know some of you are waiting for news of my paddle shift retrofit.

Well unfortunately it did not work.

Removing the airbag and wheel was simple enough. All the connectors were the same, except for the black 6 pin from the paddle shift wheel. I noticed that it had 6 wires to the connector, while the non paddle wheel had 4 wires to it's 6 pin connector. The female part of the connector did have 6 pins visible. This kind of lifted up my hopes because I assumed that the missing wires were for the paddle shift. So since the pins were on the slip ring, I assumed the wiring for the paddles was there.

Ah well at least all the other functions, including heat work. Plus I have a nice looking napa leather wheel. I'm going to keep it until some clever person finds out a way to do this retrofit.

Pictured above is the 6 pin connector from the regular wheel that plugs into the slip ring. Note that it has 4 wires.

And here is the 6 pin connector from the paddle shift wheel with 6 wires. I'm sure the extra wires are for the paddle shift.

I don't know guys. Maybe it needs coding. I will try to see if Okee the remote coder can help. I hope so. I am so convinced that the wiring is already there in the sport package models, and I did see 6 pins on the connector on the slip ring. I did not however remove the steering column cover to see if there were actually 6 wires coming out of the connector.

Bummer!

Vehicles with paddle shifters have three pieces different besides the paddles: the wheel, the multifunction switch on the wheel (paddles are plugged into it), and the switch cluster on the steering column. It's possible the last piece is your problem, since the signal from paddles has to travel through it.

I was really surprised the paddles worked for the OP. I even asked him for the VIN of his car, since that could help me figure out what specific parts he had installed at the factory, but he never responded.

(I have a 05/11 production 35i and would like to get paddles, but I have wheel heater and lane departure, which makes the configuration pretty unique and difficult to source parts for.)

AAH man,, that's a bummer. I really though all sports activity package LCI versions can run these pedals.
