Very happy with our X5 overall, but there have been multiple issues...all of which have been either recalls or warranty items.
I am aware of recalls, but if BMW takes care of them free of charge and they don't affect my day to day use of the vehicle I guess its a non issue for me at that point.
There have been a few recalls that have been mentioned when I go in for service, they are handled, and its a dope deal. I wouldn't have known about them unless they were mentioned by my service advisor because they did not affect the RELIABILITY of the car in my daily driving of the car.

It's not only the recalls. From what I know things happening to the E70 platform on case to case basis. My diesel has been a nightmare. A few of my friends with a gas version or even the X5M sharing same problems and symptoms as me.

Anything you would like to share. I would love to know what to look out for before my warranty runs out.

Wow, impressive list.
I'll be fully prepped for the next owner.

Seriously, that's a lot for 10 months, you're right.
BTW, did those fix (if now fixed) required several visits ?
If so, you're lucky (like me), we have 6 dealers to choose from.
If needs be, I'll PM you where I go, my SA is very, very knowledgeable.

Some required a few visits, for others I'm still visiting... some are hard to reproduce when needed.

I don't know about the issues but I was just given an X5 35d as a loaner and I love it. The E70 interior feels a little dated so I wouldn't buy one. But I would seriously consider the next X5 if it has the same engine.

My 2012 has had no problems yet, but it is only a few months old I think I need to change the battery on my comfort access key as once it awhile it complains about me not having a key.

18 months..33k miles..1 set of tires (covered by warranty , oil change (covered by BMW), I think 2 recalls (covered by BMW) with a loaner car, so not inconvenienced at all... This truck is solid!

I did say my diesel X5 is a car that I can keep for 10 years in the previous post - it looks like I can keep it for 20.

Possibly more important is the dealer service you get from BMW when something does need fixing -- for me having owned a number of BMWs it's one of the reasons I keep going back to them time and time again as the service is first rate and BMW UK has always honoured warranty and even non-warranty items that needed doing. That for me outweighs any minor issues that need fixing as its really just the same for any car you buy.

Question for you Stussy109. Was any reason given for the carbon build up in the turbo? I have heard of this happening to diesel turbos (only other makes of course). Do you travel only short trips in the car by any chance? One thing about diesels which is not advertised by the car makers is that they need freeway runs in the mix of driving. Short city-only trips foul up the catalytic converter apparently. Certainly in Australia, diesels have grown in popularity and low speed limits and a lack of knowledge about this could lead to issues in the future.

Still for an SUV type vehicle, I don't think I would choose anything else but a diesel (love the torque).

The X5 diesel's are well proven, I have had my first 30d in the E53 X5, then in the E70 models, 30d, 35sd, 35d, skipped the 40d went to the M50d and have not had a sigle engine problem considering I do between 60,000Klm to 70,000klm in them before I trade.

The only thing I can say is I will not buy the new model X5 coming until its been in production for 12 months, that way all the bugs have been ironed out.

The way to have all the bugs ironed out on an BMW, it to buy something else...

Even if I the X5, I know that a little annoyance will pop up at one point.
Up to now, I still purchase BMW's.
And I had a 2007 335i which I shared custody with my stealer.
Still my favourite BMW.

Got a 2010 X5d with over 30,000 miles, no issues besides the recalls. Actually I am so impressed with the vehicle so I ordered another one, a 2012 to join the 2010. Should be done next week, picking it up at the plant at the end of October.

Starting to think about tunes once the warranty runs out.

38,000 miles, and she was just flat-bedded to the dealer. Looks like the serpentine belt has come off/broke, causing loss of power steering and a whole host of other issues. We got a "battery discharge warning" yesterday, so the battery was depleted today when the belt let go. No electrical power really screws these cars up: TPMS warning, chassis/stability warning, transmission failure warning and overheating warning.

At the dealer now, but they won't get to it until tomorrow for the full diagnosis. Driving an E90 328i loaner in the mean time (5,000 miles on it....)
