Picked up my X5M today!!!

Hi guys, first post on here. Sold my 2006 M5 and picked up my X5M today that I ordered many months ago. White/Black with carbon trim, ordered all options except the rear entertainment pkg. Never been much of an SUV fan until now, I might be in love with this one so far! Many mods soon to come: ditch ugly M wheels and replace with 22" HREs black powdercoat with polished rims, clear corners, smoked tail lights, lots of carbon fiber accents, fabricate custom turbo back exhaust, intake and dyno tune (hoping to make 650-700hp on stock turbos). Will post more pics soon as the modding begins!

I just assumed because it's from japan and it smashes and destroys everything in its path, hence the name. Never heard a story about it though... do tell.

It's not a well known fact so I am not surprised you have never heard of it. The name was coined by the Australian magazine Wheels back in 1989 when the first gen of the modern GT-R's was released. Here is the article. Heaps of cool GT-R articles on the link at the end of that article too.

its really tough to compare the M5 with the X5M, cause you are comparing a high performance sedan with a high performance SUV. the M5 is a high revving NA motor, the X5 is a torque monster twin turbo motor... the M5 is a burnout machine that loves to be driven sideways, the X5 is AWD and nearly impossible to pitch the ass out. The M5 has a dual clutch tranny (that operates very poorly IMO, the GTR or Ferrari F1 is far superior) and the X5M is just a tiptronic with a torque converter. The X5 M is 1000lbs heavier than the M5, so the braking on the X5M is far inferior to the M5... this also makes the steering feel much heavier and there is much more understeer on the X5M. I like the X5M much better for a daily driver because of its versatility and the updates to the technology, especially the iDrive but as far as performance goes the M5 is a superior car in almost every aspect. Bottom line is they are two completely different cars and trying to compare them is kind of silly IMO.

Some more pics, got the windows tinted today. Going to smoke rear lights and paint the ugly reflectors white to match the body. Ordered a set of HRE 998R with black power-coat finish, polished lip, and B&W etched HRE logo, 6-8 weeks to build them, gotta do something with the stock wheels in the meantime I hate them. Going to fabricate and exhaust for it next week because the stock one is so quiet you can't hear it unless all the windows are up, music off, and you aren't talking... not what I expected from an M car.

I have a 07 X5 3.0 and when this was announced, I seriously considered trading it in for the X5M...but this would have been my wife's DD, so reconsidered and got myself a M3 instead. Anyway, sick ride.
BTW, I don't think the stock M wheels are ugly at all, I kinda like em.
