I highly doubt BMW is going to wait for an injector to fail before replacing, if your injectors are index 9 or 10 they will proceed with replacing all if you're on the recall list. A fuel injector failure could result in catastrophic engine failure if not properly functioning and that equals bad PR for BMW. I don't know the changes that have been made to injector design over those different versions, but I have to assume our idle, cruise, WOT, MPG, and start up will get better especially if you have leaky injectors. Just looking at my spark plug pic you can see that the leaky injector fouled the plug and is obviously hurting all the things I mentioned above. I'm personally excited to get these swapped out with the latest design and with a fresh set of plugs should run better than new

I wonder if BMW finally got tired of getting complaints from X5M owners who are spending thousands on replacing their injectors and other similar parts since they pretty much fucked us out of the N63 campaign which IMHO should of included the S63 since they're basically the same engine

Possible ... but M cars are made/assembled by the Motorsport division of BMW. It is a separate profit-and-loss center. I heard that the M-division did not want to spend the funds to do a recall/campaign because the numbers are so small, i.e. 4,000, maybe 5,000 units?

Something changed their mind. It could be the N63 class action law suit that was filed recently ...

Not true...the puddle of fuel in the cylinder (see pic below using endoscope) and/or fuel soaked spark plugs (also below as well as other pics posted on this thread) will be their tell. BMW is up to revision 12 now, I removed 7's from my car and who needs 5 revisions unless they know something isn't right.

Shitty thing is these EXACT same injectors are used on pretty much every high pressure engine in multiple BMW's, minus the M5 which uses a different style. Cross reference the part numbers on www.realoem.com and the list is quiet long.

Curious to hear your opinion on how the truck performed after replacing your old injectors with the index 12.

Seems to start a little quicker, still sounds like a quiet diesel at idle. I've read claims of better gas mileage but I'd never know because I'm always on the fun pedal. I gutted my cats at the same time, then a BMW tech buddy and I reinstalled everything in about 8hrs.

You can see the fuel puddle on the RH cat, which also cleaned all the carbon off the RH turbo as well.

Keeping my eyes out for what is to come. CPO'd through 2017 so at least a little comfort there if they don't extend this.

I just got my vehicle back and all the injectors were replaced. At first they said they would have to run tests to see if it was needed or not and turns out all were done. I didn't get a letter in the mail but an email instead.

Can somebody post a copy of the letter you received please? Because some of us here said it is a recall and some of us were told (including me) by their stealership it is not a recall but they are extending the warranty to 10 years/120k miles, I emailed BMW USA for clarrification and they told me also there is no recall but extension of warranty to 10 years/120k miles.

I stopped in to see my SA yesterday and he plugged my fob into his reader and the message popped up that they should schedule it to have the service done (replace injectors). He said that it is not a recall (BMW seems to avoid that word like the plague), but the message does state to replace the injectors. He also mentioned that they are going to warranty for 10th/120k.

Will schedule as soon as I get my M3 put back together.

No letter, I call my service advisor and asked if he saw anything in the system. He said it showed an open campaign to check injectors next time the vehicle is in.

I'm ready to get the injectors replaced.

Mine started failing about 3 months ago at 48k miles. Dealership said it was most likely the injectors but couldn't verify because no fault code. CarMax warranty wouldn't cover to replace injectors without knowing for sure they are in fact faulty (I thought this was fair and CarMax warranty has been great covering other items).

At that time the master tech at the d ale told me that engines other than the N63 would be addressed soon.
