Here's my air intake
I kept my K&N filter inside the engine bay.
I will stay cleaner longer and don't have to worry when is raining or washing the car.But great intake from you guys as well. |

I'll reach out to the guy again, but last time he'd agreed to do $1k shipped for piping, silicone couplers, filters and water socks. I'm getting nothing from this, I'm just sending my intakes back to him so he can make jigs and then he'll send them right back.

I get more than enough rain here in Seattle. The filters are covered I'm K&N water socks, I haven't had a single problem in the year something I've been running them.

1k for an intake, though I get it, is a price point that will not sell to 10 people I don't think. I wouldn't mind seeing the dyno sheet for this intake, but my guess is that the majority of us will stick with stock. I believe it can support some good power numbers

Raza @ RK Autowerks sells his for no less than $1300 and has dyno results on his for sale threads...I imagine my numbers would be very close to the same. Either way, between how they sound when I'm daily driving and then hearing them outside the car for the first time lastnight (had the GF drive my X5M while I was driving my buddies E60 M5), the sound alone is worth it to me.

well you, sir, must have different priorities then I do. Though it could be me coming from the Murican car modding world (And Japanese, but shhh don't tell anyone). That could possibly skew my price point ideas for particular mods.

I wouldn't mind getting in on this. What do you need to make this happen?

I could reach out to the builder again but last tune he'd agreed to making a jig for a 10 order minimum. I've taken it for granted to have them but the GF hates it EVERY time I go into tunnels...WOT, brakes, WOT, brakes...muahahaha.

It's not looking like there is enough demand to reach an order of 10. I may just go a more conventional route and bite the bullet with RK.

I had a list of about 7 people before RK had the thread deleted since I'm not a vendor. Last I heard he's still selling them for around $1300. Maybe he'd be willing to do a GB since he was able to design them on someone elses back.

It randomly comes up. I'd still happily send my intakes out to be duplicated if 10 the builder got his 10 minimum people. So far the closest I got was like 7 interested, no monies and then it faded away again. Unfortunately most won't know just how awesome these things sound until they hear them...I've got one of one, then I imagine there can't be many that ponied up the RK ones for 2x the price.

with this way installation have some serious disadvantages even if i dont want to spoil your mood..
1. its so easy to make those filters wet.. in a rainy day.. or car wash %100 make those filters wet.. i guess no need to tell the possible consequences.. 2. cooling.. winter time it may affect less but in summer time while pushing a bit it ll be so easy to exceed optimal temperatures for the engine with such high pressured V8.. for able to squeeze 550hp im sure that turbos kick at least 1.0bar of pressure.. it means things can go bad easy if not everything is set right.. like Dinans etc.. not blocking the radiator and its not exposed completely.. in any CAI systems that why they make corners etc to keep water away.. except track cars.. |

2. Our radiators are huge and the attached fans work well. Observe how a slipstream works... The lead object doesn't stop air from EVER going behind it, the only area absent of air will be immediately behind it, where a vacuum of sorts will exist. After this vacuum will be an area of turbulence, followed by a return to normal air flow. If you think those inlet nozzles are big enough to cause cooling issues in this platform, you may have issues with paranoia. |

You guys are overthinking and overcomplicating this simple thing.
Best to quit while you may be ahead. I also want to remind you, that opinions can be neither wrong, nor right.

I had the Rk and sold them. Stalled the car on two occasions (like someone mentioned..right after getting the car washed). Pulled the two filters and they were drenched w water. I added the water repellant socks down the road and it never happened again. Sound was amazing though.
