That was just a test for clearance, the next one we are doing will be shorter travel and even on both sides.

I'm not sure about any kind of huge gains in performance enhancement but the sound should be awesome! You can always throw pre-filters on the air filters to keep out debris and rain. I ran one all the time on my Jeep SRT8 that was boosted b/c of a vented hood. The hood would let water hit it constantly if it rained and when I washed it. I never had problems with contaminates of any kind. I guess living in S. Cali is a little different from most places b/c you only have to worry about rain 5-6 days out of the year.

SoLo,
Have you thought about making anymore of these other then just the 1? I would be interested in buying one. Please, PM me if you would entertain the idea.

Well done on taking the initiative to get this done! I really wish we had more options for our X5M's but I guess you got to start somewhere.

Interested in any gains/sound difference with this.

At the cost of the stock intake piping this is a nice looking modification.

So much want!!! While this was just using parts I literally had sitting on the floor, I quickly found the issue with the tubing clearing the radiator/brace & hood. I figured it'd either have to be solved by swinging wide like SoLo did or going oval like Travis did. No offense to SoLo because he did something no one else has yet, but I like Travis' design much better. I'm torn though...SoLo has a wide sweep much like the MSR design so there's no tight bends, but that top plate kills the look of it...but I'm assuming it's for bracing, which is something Travis will need to incorporate as well. Either way, I'm super excited to see something finally released for us. Someone complete one and let me test it already :-)

Maybe it's just me but having to lose half the engine cover for some shiny tubing that may or may not yield minimal gains seems like a fruitless effort. Of course I could be wrong but I'd really like to see a comparison of this setup vs stock with say some filters and ram air scoops. I will applaud the ingenuity you guys are putting into this project though.

Go look at an M5 engine...they use metal coolant lines to feed the turbos and don't have one huge airbox like we've got. I don't expect a lot of gains from the intake, but I figured it's much like doing a muffler delete...more ways to be able to hear the turbos. MSR has their intake for the M5, questionable gains, 2-3x as much as my intake...but that sound! :-)

Travis1807 gets it from a website called www.burnsstainless.com I believe, but I'm sure any Google search will get some results.

Bump for SoLo on those turbos. I bought Travis1807's intake tubes, then I've got an exhaust setup sitting at home...the mods bug is coming at me full speed :-)

It's something that can be done, the vendor just said they'd want 10 confirmed people before they'd make a jig to reproduce it. Anyone interested can email me at m5james@yahoo.com.
