I get an average of 21mpg on my 35i, 23mpg isn't going to make me any greener. I'm keeping the gas vehicle, unless I'm getting more toys that need towing.

A 56% increase in premium going from Petrol to Diesel?

When I was debating on gas vs diesel back in Sept 2012, diesels came out even or cheaper than gassers.
Are you sure you are comparing exact same configuration?

Well said. Both are very good vehicles. A person picks diesel or gasser depending on their needs, or particular likes.

Is anyone familiar with the 2013 X5d exhaust? I went into a reputable shop and they told me they couldn't remove my secondary cats as the new design is for O2 sensors to be after these as well. Usually, the O2 sensors are ONLY before and after the PRIMARY cats.

Any truth to this? I removed the resonator and muffler and have absolutely no change in sound or tone to the exhaust...even on WOT.

Almost same specs. Petrol was Premium trim. Even the insurance company was surprised.

For what's it is worth, the diesel X5 is a really fun vehicle to drive. While I am currently in the middle of engine malfunction issues with my 2012 X5D, the drive itself is great.

Recent adventure with my Diesel

Yesterday I had to drive to Alexandria VA from Monmouth County, NJ. Roughly 483 miles round trip. Filled the tank at 7 am and did a round trip. My average MPG was 28.7 average speed 64mph and I arrived home at midnight with a range of 116 miles and 1/4 tank. Love the diesel!!

What is your average mpg and how much hwy driving do you do? I average around 20.5mpg with 70% hwy.

I found this thread: http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...ight=x5+diesel
I'm about 21.5 mpg with 40/60 hwy/city in a 35d, now 50k miles. Prior to recall on emissions system I was about 24.5 mpg at 20K miles.

If you are towing, the 35d is amazing. Especially through the mountains.

With no tow its still amazing in the mountains. Driving up this long mountain passes is so effortless.

The base 35 doesn't have that rough diesel sound. That's the only real disadvantage if the 35d vs the basic 35i.

The D is the best engine for this ute.

I rode in my friend's E90 335d chipped, it's a monster. I'm considering an F10 535d now.

A chipped 335i (gasser) will still beat the chipped diesel 0-60, but that diesel is so much more fun to drive.

Drove a friend's Mitsu Evo the other day. That thing is a beast when you push it, but I can say it was not fun to drive in "regular mode". Turbo lag was horrible, no power in lower RPM range at all. I am too old to always be in 'race mode'.
Similar feelings about the new 328i (2.0L turbo engine). Though better than the Evo, still not as much fun as my tall, (comparably) lumbering, freaking diesel SUV.
