Update!
Got the wheel on and absolutely love it! The scroll wheel works great and I can custom make it work as a volume knob and the + & - work as next track or swap it so the scroll wheel works as next track and so on. The cruise control now works from the steering wheel vs the lever so I will be removing the lever and filing the hole. One less lever will be nice. Working with car systems on making a custom software to use the M1 and M2 buttons for heat and whatever else that comes to mind as well as getting the paddles to work. All in all very happy and updates the interior Nicely ! Also a big plus was getting rid of the recalled airbag as it be 2+ years to get a new one and not wanting to drive around with a shrapnel grenade in front of me. |

Looks awesome!!
If you dont mind sharing, How much was this project all in? how much work went into programming the steering wheel to work with the X6? Was the mounting of the steering wheel straight forward or did you have to make modifications to the car/Wheel? |

The install is plug and play for the steering wheel as the F10 uses the same shaft, but theirs just a couple of modifications to the wheel back you need to do but super simple. The module from car systems is straight forward and once you connect the right wires your good to go. Their making some custom software due to my needs for the wheel functions but other wheels are different so your needs may differ. All in I bought the wheel brand new fully loaded with heat and vibro motor with north American dual stage airbag for $1900, the module was $250. The NBT EVO ID6 retrofit was $1700 all in. You can buy other f10 wheels for average of 600 to 800 depending, I wanted all options and not a used one so I went a little overboard but in all you could do this mod with a new wheel with module for under a grand if you watch eBay for the good deals. I paid more because I wanted the 2 stage airbag vs the single stage. It's up two you how deep you want to go with it. And if you go single stage you'll have to code the car as well for single stage. Otherwise it's a great mod! |

Thanks for the info! looking into getting this done as well... I assume you got the NBT from Car systems as well? How was the install on that? did you have to get everything coded to work? |

This is Fantastic! GREAT work. I have toyed with this and the NBT retrofits, but after the LED headlights and other retrofits and mods to make our '11 better, my wife just asked why we don't get a new X5M... Who am I to argue with that?

Question, with EVO System, screen is larger than space provided on E70 / E71. I see in your images, you are showing larger size screen. How did you install it? Do you have an open hole behind the screen? Is there a cover for the original opening? Great job on both retrofits, by the way, looks like factory installations.

Theirs some retrofits that have different screens but the screens are smaller or larger than the opening and don't fit the current design that well. The f15 is a natural fit and updates the look somewhat. But the design is not for everyone and some prefer a more integrated look, so theirs two directions you can take, you can use a similar sized screen from the newer 3 series which you can fit in the same e70 housing for a 100% factory look, you will need to tell them what size you want when ordering, or go with the f15 style larger screen but will have a less flush integrated look but it will be more in line with the current designs from BMW. I'm currently working on making a 3D printed backing plate that will be wrapped with the same vinyl that covers the dash, I hade the original screen 3D scanned and and having a custom part made so when Installed it will look very finished and factory look with no rat holes anywhere. |

That looks awesome! Do you need to have the NBT retrofit on order to install this steering wheel and make it work? Thanks.

So did car systems actually figure out a software update for their module where the M Button works on the F10 M5 Steerings if installed on the E70 X5Ms?

Their the ones in the pic. Also I have a contact I can send you and he will make a wire module so the paddles work as well. It's a fully loaded wheel with vibration and heat. Let me know if your interested. |

hey, yes I'd like the wheel but don't need the navigation display.
PM me for the cost for the wheel with air bag. I am not worried about pedals working or not, if it's possible then that's fine. Not a requirement. Let me know! |

Otherwise you just need to rewire your heat button from BMW's off the steering wheel heater control. And mount it somewhere off the clock spring. If you didn't have heat before I'm not sure what you need to do to retrofit it. |
