Ryan's X5 M-Sport Journal
Ive been a member of the X forums since the spring and I finally picked up my X5 from a fellow member here.
2013 X5 35i M-Sport 60k miles Deep Blue Metallic w/black interior Heres the only good pics I have so far. It snowed here so now its covered in salt and crap. 20171208_164050 by ryan19vic, on Flickr 20171209_105214 by ryan19vic, on Flickr Its certainly different that the E39 but I like it. My original plan was to get a 135 or 335 and a beater truck but after looking at how much I would pay a year to park 2 cars, I decided to just get a fast truck. Already has staggered 20" Style 469M wheels and the Bavsound Stage 1 speaker upgrade. Overall its in really good shape. Some small cosmetic issues that need to be taken care of but nothing major. CPO warranty lasts until Oct 2018 Planned mods: VRSF Chargepipe BMS Intake AR Downpipes MHD Stage 2 tune AvinUSA headunit |

Thanks guys. Yea I really love this color. I love how it changes under different lighting conditions.
I got one question already. I have an iPod touch that I want to hook up. I was able to connect it via bluetooth and the sound came out just fine. I want to be able to scroll playlists using the idrive so I tried to hard wire it using the Apple lightning cable with the USB connector in the center armrest. It doesnt recognize anything being connected and no sound. Is there anyway to accomplish this? Do I need to use a USB/AUX Y-cable? Do I need to update the idrive software? I know when I get the Avin unit, the Carplay adapter will handle this, but in the mean time, is there a way to make this work? |

Nice little update. Before I ordered a Y-cable, I tried updating the iDrive software. What do you know- after the update, I can hook my ipod to the car with just the apple lightning cable. Audio, full access to songs, playlists and album art thru the iDrive system.

So unfortunately this happened.
Driving home during an snow/ice storm here the Friday before last and spun out. I was in the left lane and I hit ice or hydroplaned on some slush ( not entirely sure) and suddenly Im sideways at 50 mph in the middle lane. I caught the spin so I didn't do a 180 or more. Im staring straight ahead at a car I'm about to hit and I'm looking to my right at a car that is about to hit me so I had to bail on the idea of regaining traction and instead stand on the brakes and get the car to rotate a bit to avoid the other cars. Miraculously I somehow pulled it off but I couldn't avoid the guard rail. I went nose in at less than 20mph so the damage is cosmetic only. Could have been much much worse. So yea. Now I need a new bumper and front panel. I got one estimate for about $4k. I should have another on Monday but I know they are gonna be around $5k. I really don't understand the design concept BMW chose to have the fender wrap around the front of the car like that. Drive safe! |

Thanks god you're safe and the car has minimal damage. If you are not using your insurance to cover the damage source the parts on ebay or car-part and bring it to a reputable body shop, under 2k you should be able to get it fix. Which tires you currently have?

Currently have Conti DWS. The tread is getting a bit low and I was going to replace them anyways later in the spring. I think that timeline just moved up.
I've thought about buying the parts myself and bringing them to the body shop but the main shop I've been talking to isn't a fan of that. Apparently the way BMW ships the bumpers causes a lot of problems as they arrive damaged. They claim they return bumpers almost every day because of that. If that really is the case, I don't want to be the middle man in that. |

$4k is robbery if all you need is a bumper cover. However it does look like the drivers fender is going to have to be replaced as well. For fender and bumper cover you should be around $1500-$1700 for those two parts. That means another $2500 in paint and labor. Still seems a little high in my opinion. Did they mention if they were going to blend or not?

Yea I need a new fender and new bumper. Each retails for about $1k a piece. (Ive seen the fender going for about $600 tho) The estimate I received so far includes those two parts for ~$2k plus an additional $1700 for paint, install and blending the door.
Still waiting on the other estimate from a place called C&D Auto Body. These guys do a lot of work from BMWNA and the local dealers and their price reflects that so we shall see. |
