X5 e70 2009 no audio?

Hi
Just purchased a 2009 bmw x5 e70. Previous owner has fitted a aftermarket apple car play screen. No sound is coming from it. It connects to my phone and plays the music but no sound. The warning tones are working intermittently. The parking sensors work but it’s almost like everything is delayed and will stay beeping even after parking and switching the car off. I found a optic cable in the passenger footwell and one end has the red light but the other end does not is this correct? Some help in the right direction would be really appreciated.

Similar problem was also with my x5, after installing the android screen everything was ok just no audio,
After that i realise that fiber comes to my OEM CIC unit must be pluged in to the android
and doing that the sound comes on from the original system of x5

The fiber comes from dhe left side of the trunk, from the amplifier

Hi thanks for the reply. The wiring all seems to be fitted correctly. They have plugged the optic cable into the android screen but still no sound?

Pictures of the installation would be helpful. Can you access any of the carplay hardware to get manufacturer information and model numbers. Did it ever work? Did the previous owner tell you it didn't work?

there is no audio from original system or from android unit?

if there is no audio from android unit but the original system has audio then you must connect the android to aux of original system, and when play music you must choose play from aux or external device

The previous owner said it did work fine and sound was working. Hopefully he’s telling the truth. I will try to add pictures. My phone connects with apple car play through Bluetooth and the music will play off Spotify just no sound? And I didn’t get the original system with the car. The cd player underneath the climate controls makes a sound as if a cd is trying to load then cuts off. I found the optic cable in passenger footwell but only one end is lit up the other is dark no light. Is that correct? All the warning sounds like seatbelt reverse sensors work but are very delayed if you get what I mean. It’s strange because I’ve read people that have no sound don’t hear no warning sounds either. There is no sos warning in the dash either. Another thing I noticed when trying to turn the volume up on the original cd player beneath the climate it doesn’t show nothing in the screen showing the volume being increased or decreased neither does it show anything using volume on steering wheel.

I’ve had the system out to make sure everything was plugged in and the optic cable which plugs in the new adapter has been plugged in so I don’t understand.

Are the optical plugs in the footwear plugged into each other or just hanging. They need to be plugged into each other. I figure you know that, but I've got to make sure.

Yes they are plugged in together. But when unplugged should both sides light up?

No, they should not both light up. one is IN and one is
OUT. The optical BUS is a ring structure, light moves in one direction. One will be red, one will be dark.

Ok so that rules that out. I don’t know what else could be the issue. I’ll pull the whole system out tomorrow and take some pictures to see if anyone can notice any issues.

Could it be a fuse? I thought if it was a fuse that I’d have no sound from warning chimes. The fuse in the back of the cd player system is ok.

I managed to pull it out tonight as I don’t have much time during the day because of working and really need to figure out the issue. Hopefully the images have attached because I’m new to the forum and wasn’t too sure how to add pictures.

the green cable of fibre, does it turn red light when ignition is on?

There is any audio output from your after market screen? if yes you must connect also that to the AUX audio port or original system ( under the armrest )

Unlikely the cause, but double check that fuse on the back of the CIC below the MOST fiber optic connections...mine is 15A, can't see yours. Next follow the Aux output of the monitor, make sure that remains connected to the aux cable going to the OEM AUX IN in the armrest. If too short, when you pull the CIC out, it could disconnect.

Hi guys thanks for your replies. From what I can remember I don’t think the green cable in big unit lights up when ignition is on and when the big plug with green cable in is plugged out of the big unit there’s no light in the cable in the passenger footwell. But when I plug the big plug into big unit the light comes back to the fibre cable in passenger footwell. Also you’ve asked me to plug the aux into armrest. Is this the aux cable coming from the aftermarket apple carplay screen or the aftermarket adapter or the big original unit. I’ll pull it out again and see if I can get anywhere with it. Thanks again guys much appreciated. Any more info would really help.

Hi this aux lead says audio output coming from the aftermarket adapter going into cic unit. Should this be connected to aux in armrest? Also I checked today when ignition on I have no red light in the fibre cables that plug into the cic unit? But when it’s unplugged no light in footwell and when plugged in light comes to fibre cable in footwell. Strange?

did you connect the aux cable from output of your android ( holding in your hand) to the aux in port under the armrest? did it work?

if yes, then choose from original system external drive to play audio
