Amsoil or motul oil?
Hey guys!
Need your advice for which oil would be appropriate for a velos tune 2012 e71 x6m which has 43k miles. I just recently purchased it couple months ago and due for oil change. I heard good things about amsoil and even greater on motul but need someone to guide me. Again the car has 43k and will do the velos stage 2 tune in about next week and I heard I have to put good quality performance oil so the engine can keep up with performance but again I'm a regular joe when it comes to cars. Thank you all for your help |

I ran Motul 300v on my tuned, 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and it makes the cylinder slick as greased ice. Pricey, but seriously good stuff. 7800 mile OCI.

[QUOTE=Colodano;25767248]Usually around 7500 miles. I have some leaks to fix, so I do top up a bit as well during that time. Not sure that it matters, but I am on a Velos tune as well.[/QUOTE
And how are you liking the tune? Any misfires while flooring it or downshifting? Does it affect the fuel injectors? Gas mileage? |

10,000Km....no oil used in-between changes...I use an LL04 rated oil...usually Total Ineo MC3, 5W30
https://germanparts.ca/parts/B422E https://www.bimmerworld.com/BMW-Engine-Oil/ “ LL-04 (2005). API SM/SN. ACEA C3 (similar to A3). SAE 5W30, 5W40. The LL-04 oils have been greatly misunderstood in the past but this is now in greater demand. Most LL-04 oils are intended for Diesels, although it was also approved for gas engines in Europe and other world markets. BMW never certified LL-04 for the US (see next paragraph). Diesel oil has long been valued by engine builders and tuners because of its higher levels of ZDDP content. LL-04 also has a lower SAPS value which is good news for direct-injection engines (all BMW turbo engines since 2007). You won't find Genuine BMW LL-04 sold here but Red Line Euro-Series oil is produced around this spec. As part of the efforts to make engine oil more environmentally friendly, the US EPA required ZDDP levels to be reduced in gasoline oil. However, Diesel oil was exempt from this ZDDP reduction. BMW never certified LL-04 for the US market because a) there weren't many Diesels for sale here, b) it was incompatible with the high amounts of sulfur and Ethanol in US gasoline. However, since 2014 our gasoline more closely matches European sulfur levels and interest in LL-04 has increased. LL-04 and LL-01 are interchangeable/compatible but LL-04 is preferred for its higher ZDDP and low SAPS. Food for thought: the official BMW Motorsport oil recommendation for the M4 GT4 race car is a LL-04 spec oil. Our race team uses Red Line Euro Series 5W40.” Last edited by Bilbofraggins; 02-10-2020 at 08:48 PM.. |

I'm using MOTUL X-MAX 0w40 after my warranty is out and also BMW is no longer producing 0w40 for our M cars. change intervals 5-6K Kms.

Just done mine a few weeks earlier, i do my engine oils with 5000km interval, and so far i've tried:
OEM LL01FE 5W30 Voltronic VOLTRONIC ® GranTurismo C+ REVNOL HCL 5W30 I would say Voltronic VOLTRONIC ® GranTurismo C+ gave engine most slick run out of all. But personally i think any LL01 or LL04 certified oil are good, the point really is about your change interval, that is more important than good or better oil. Just my opinion.

I've not strayed from 5W30 so far and 10,000 km intervals...Running year round my ambient outside temperatures can be as low as the -30's C and as high as +30's C...
I don't think I would bother with 0W in this vehicle if I was in the UK....but now my vehicle has been bumped to a life outside...I'm considering it.... I'm at 9000km right now and still showing zero oil consumed...Definitely staying with LL04...probably the Total mentioned... |

If you have an Motorsports version motor, that is an X5/6 M, motor is S63, than you need to use 10-60 LiquiMoly.
If you do not have the M version X5 or X6, the N63 motor, than you should use what is recommended 5 30w I believe. I have heard liguimoly is like vitamins to an engine. |
