DEF Delete
Hi Guys
I am thinking of getting a DEF delete and tune done and change out Down pipes. Any Pro's and Con's? Any issues with passing emissions? I live in the North East. The guy who does the delete and tune says he has done several x5 35d and no problem passing emissions. Thanks for your feedback. Happy Holidays |

I don't have a diesel but I've been on the forums a while and it seems to be all pro and no con when doing a delete. I wouldn't hesitate to delete if I had a diesel.
The only con may be more diesel exhaust smell if that's a thing that bothers you? I'm running catless on my X5M and it smells but doesn't bother me...

If you're worried about smell just get a catted downpipe. Personally I don't mind the smell

For the 335 I bought a downpipe with a doc to help with the smell and smoke ect. I decided to save some money with the x35 and gutted the stock unit but left the doc intact. That saved me close to $700 but what was really nice was the fact that the x5 doesn't smoke as much during startup and does not have nearly the same diesel stink as my 335. The 335 smells like my pre-emissions f350 superduty and the x5 smell is much cleaner. I still have the stock unit from my 335 and will be gutting it (keeping the doc) and reinstalling. I think the reason for the difference in smell is that the stock doc is closer to the turbo and is bigger than the doc in the aftermarket downpipe. I get some whiffs of exhaust in the 335 but nothing in x35. However, the 335 has a leaky turbo feed line which I think is causing the occasional cabin smell. Also, the government is really cracking down on delete/tune shops in the diesel truck world. Having this done could get a lot more difficult. I don't even see tunes available anymore on the website where I went to. Last edited by Juno01; 12-23-2019 at 08:00 AM.. |

I smell it, and it does smell. Not as nasty as a cattless gasser though

Thank you all for the feedback. My only worries is passing emissions. I am not due for test till 11/2020. Has anyone had issues passing emissions in the Tri State Area? Emissions testing is my only hold back. |

You will fail any emissions testing once deleted

Also what kind of testing do they do? Do they plug into the obdII port and check readiness? Do they do a visual inspection and check for engine lights? What you can do all depends on how you state/city tests.
