Speaking of tires. I just replaced my with the Conti DWS06 all around from Tire Rack, paid about $1000 with install at local tire installer. Feel very confident on the road and no more road noise. Trying to figure out how to get a spare tire now that I no long have the run flats. Any suggestions for a 20" rim without breaking the bank? Also need tire kit as well. Thanks.

I'll mention that the dealers can sometimes run good deals on tires and will often price match (mine will) the price at tire rack, discount tire, and etc. I like taking mine to the dealer to swap tires as at least they don't damage the rims. I've had bad luck with discount tire, ntb, and their chimps scratching the rims when putting / removing tires on my X5M and etc.
My dealer often does buy 3 get one free deals. So I was able to pickup a set of 4 Bridgestone Dueler H/P sport RFT tires for $1100 installed. There are a lot more tires in the X5M's size now that meet the necessary speed and load rating then there used to be. If I went with will be flats living in Houston I'd probably go with the pilot sport 4s, but at around $2K they are pricey. The DWS have been always popular but are on the more grand touring end of high performance. Tires when new are always quieter, but all high performance tires as they wear get noisy. I've replaced several set of pilot sports before their time due to noise. Sometimes they start noisey too. On my 550i, I switched from the goodyear all season RFTs to Pilot Super Sports, and I can say that the pilots are noisier even new then my worn RFTs. |

Looks like Michelin just came out with an ultra high performance in 275/315 spec: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...fter%2010%2F10
I may give these a go! Big Michelin fan for years, and have had Conti DWS previously. The A/S3 NSpec are a couple hundred more, but the new pilot 4 all seasons could be giving Continental a run for it's money at the same price point

okay so here we go... I've only had the tires on for a day so I'll do another review in about a month.
A few points to cover beforehand as i have seen a good amount of mis-information on tires. 1. Tires are quite possibly THE MOST important element to the overall drive feel of your car/ truck. For spirited driving even more so.. meaning suspension, ride, grip, turn in, sidewall stiffness. 2. You absolutely do not want to skimp on tires by getting some no name cheappy tires and then being stuck with them while also starting to hate your car. 3. Who ever came up with the idea of using run flat tires on high end BMWs, should be lined up and shot... or at least caned 4. While I am in CA.. i needed a tire that is sporty, lasts, comfortable and can be taken to the snow once is a while. 5. I am coming from completely worn out Bridgestone runflats in the rear, although my opinion on runflats has been the same since my 335i 6. X5M all wheel drive system seems to be very sensitive to grip.. having one tire being more worn than others and in general very worn tires.. cause all kinds of issues like vibrations, grip and random enablement of anti-slip. Michelin Pilot A/S 4 - 20 Initial impression…. Its like driving on rubber clouds! My M now feels like the way it should have felt from the factory! 1. The small bumps that I rattled over before are barely noticeable now. 2. Grip is immense for an A/S tire… I am having hard time breaking them loose. They do squeal some when I did, but that could be due to them being brand new. 3. Sidewall stiffness – while nowhere near the runflats, I’d say its above average for an A/S tire. I am feeling a bit of a lean-in but not much. 4. Minor vibrations that i felt with old tires and thought were due to worn control arms are now gone. 5. Price - $1,335 installed at Americas Tire + there is a $50 rebate at discount tire so $1280 which puts it within the average price range for name brand tires of this size. So while I have never tried any other AS, non-runflat tires on X5M I very satisfied so far. |

Thanks for that review. Something to think about. As I already have dedicated winter tires, I am thinking of going with the Vredestein performance summers.....have to sleep on it a few more nights, but those damn Bridgestone RFT are coming off.

If you're looking for a good summer performance tire... i love, love, love Bridgestone S04s. They are basically 95% of the michelin sports performance for 2/3 the price. Not sure they have the size for X5m but I swear by them on my 335 and M3

These tires do come with a 45k warranty so 8k seems like an issue... what's everyone seeing from their rears? |

I’ve been running 21” Michelin Super Sports for 3 summers across 2 X5Ms.
Though I have acquired the tires used, the projected life on those is a bit better than your A/S set: about 10-12k miles. Rears wear faster, so I can generally get more longevity out of the fronts- not a ton more though. I feel as though I drive it in a spirited manner, though I can’t recall any tire squeal. Those puppies just stick.

I run this on my X5 50i and after 10,000 miles, they still have more then half their usefull tread. Great all season tires, except snow, but if you drive slowly in snow, no problems. |

I'm at about 30k miles on my Vredesteins. All seasons. Never had an issue in snow, rain or anything. Im due soon for a change, most likely in the coming months. I was a Michelin fan before I tried these.

- Their shops generally staffed with young 'kids' that are taught to work as fast as possible in order to turn jobs as fast as possible (see next item) - Commission model promotes above type of shop environment I've spent at least 15k with Discount over the last 20+ years but a lot of times that was due to having no real alternative at the time. I have learned from those experiences. The stuff I've seen them do & the stuff I've preventing them from doing by watching them while they work on my vehicles could take a bit to type out. Suffice to say, no luxury car wheels of mine will ever be at Discount, & anything else I may take there will be watched over like a hawk while the work is being done. |

Nice timing on this thread. I am about to shop for the next set of tires for my 5.0i. Gone through two sets of the OE Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport RFT's, and I do like the tires just fine but I have issue with -
- They only last 12k-15k miles. I am getting the impression that most of you are seeing the same thing, even with tires that have a tempting warranty like the 45k mentioned above... Laughable! - The fronts ALL wear out on the outside edge!! Last time I had a set put on I took it to my alignment shop of choice and asked they reduce the toe-in on the fronts As Much As Possible! I don't think he went all the way but he did go well past the BMW spec... and here we are again with my fronts all worn out on the outer edges... I did get a couple thousand more miles out of these than my last set, but this wear is the limiting factor it seems. If not for it, I think I could go another few thousand miles as the rest of the front tread and the entire rear treads are not at wear bars yet... So, meh, it's sounding like I may as well just stick with these Dueler's. They are one of the few tires the BMW dealer sells for this vehicle. I too agree that I would rather pay a bit more and have my good local dealer do the work, as they'll watch out for the TPS and rims and even if there is an issue I know they will make it right. Also as posted above they have the Dueler's at a bit less than Tire Rack has them listed (before installation). Not bad... I prefer a known quantity and don't care to mess around with much cheaper tires on this 5300 lb beast. I do like the sound of Non-RFT's for ride quality but this is just easier.

I'm not a BMW guru by any means, but this doesn't sound right. I know my tank wears the tires evenly across the tread on each tire. Do you have other alignment shop choices or do you trust the guys you use enough to eliminate them being a factor in this?
Good luck! |

I have read many others on here that get this wear, so it sounds more common than not. I got an indy shop alignment 1k miles before getting my second set of Duelers mounted, and they reduced the toe in by half. I know several of us shared our alignment specs on here back then, maybe I can find it and link here...
*EDIT* Found it: Several alignment specs (incl mine) and discussion mixed into this thread. https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show....php?t=1166002 *End Edit* I just checked my maintenance notes and got some numbers: It came CPO to me with new Duelers and an alignment and those tires had to be replaced at 13.5k miles (!) really only due to the front outer edges being bald. I got an alignment a thousand or so miles in preparation of getting my second set of Duelers mounted, and they took out almost all the toe in. So the fronts on my second set of Duelers did eventually show the same wear on the outer edges, however between the alignment and my running a couple psi higher, I now have 23k on this set - actually a lot more miles than I thought I had on them. Much more reasonable. So it helped a lot. The extra miles allowed me to wear down the rest of my treads a lot more this time but they are still not quite at the wear bars anywhere, while those front outer edges have been smooth for a while. I'm not so concerned now that I see I have 23k on them, except I can say the front edges have been smooth for the last 25% of their life...
