Thats realy dirty! I would check the car a bit better for bad maintenance.

Agreed, it is disappointing for sure. I'm now presuming it skipped some scheduled maintenance items. I've done most of the fluids, just need to do trans and TC still. Interestingly the cabin filters were pretty clean and I probably didn't need to swap out.

For more filter foulness, here is the cabin filter on my new to me E91:

Come on people, basic maintenance just isn't that hard!

I'm new on the forum. Don't know if this is the right place to ask. maybe somebody can guide me in the right connection. But I'm wondering if a headlight of an European E70 can fit on an amercan model. I know that american models have different bodywork, but are the headlights replaceable? Mine is leaking and I found a used one closeby.
I have: BMW X5 3.0si E70 SAV USA N52N, which has 63117289001 as part number. But I saw a 63117288995 for BMW X5 3.0si E70 SAV Europe N52N

I don’t think that there is a difference in housing, but there could de a diverence in the wiring or lights.
If the glass is leaking, it could be removed en closed again. There are some threads here.
Another way is to check some parts point, like Silvia BMW.

Recently install this. So far so good. Wireless CarPlay connects seamlessly. Switches to backup cam when in reverse.

Screen is much clearer and brighter and definitely gives the interior a more modern look.

Wish that it would automatically switch over to BMW info screens like heated seat settings, ventilation display, front side cameras, etc when those buttons on the dashed are pressed.

Part number got me the wire with 1 connector crimped to it and a separate connector that I had to borrow a crimping tool to install. Is that how yours came?

I don’t think this will ever be settled. Too many car makes/models and transmission variants and it’s impossible to know and control all of the variables.

I changed the auto transmission fluid on my previous Z4 2.5i at 210K miles. It had not ever been changed according to the previous owner. Made a huge difference in how smooth the shifting was.

In my current X5M I changed it at 130K miles. Also a huge improvement.

I’ve come to believe that the debate about not changing the trans fluid at very high mileages is more lore than fact. I’ll continue to swap out all the fluids when buying a used car regardless of whether the trans has been serviced or not. Again this my experience. YMMV

OK, finished this one up, and fingers crossed I did everything correctly! Have never done a transmission service before, so was a little scary! The three hidden bolts were pretty tough, but I used a T40 bit and a 1/4" ratcheting box end to get at them. I hope the torque is good on them! Everything else was uneventful. A bunch of ZF8 fluid left over, so I'll probably do a drain and fill in a while to try to flush out a higher percentage of the old stuff.

Couldn't get at the torque converter bolt. Well, the bolt was fine, but I can't imagine getting a hose in there siphon the old stuff out. I'll try again in a while when I'm motivated!

That's it for regular maintenance on the E70... now I'm off to get the E91 road-worthy!

I adjusted both of the rear hatch stops to eliminate the rattle that has been coming from the rear hatch area when going over bumps.

This is on my list of things to do! Pretty straightforward just loosening the bolts and re-tightening when in the better spot?

I adjusted the hatch stops from inside the car with the hatch closed. I won’t try to re-invent the wheel, so I’m including a link below to the video I followed. I never had a ton of resistance, but after a couple clockwise turns, there was more resistance and it’s a significant improvement that I didn’t need to break out the credit card for.

It wasn’t mentioned in the video, but I think it’s worth double checking to be sure the hatch still seals in the closed position after making the adjustments so that you don’t have unwanted road noise or surprises at the car wash.

Thanks! I have an intermittent rattle from that area... this is probably the cause of it!

Aliexpress

I bought this one in the 10.25” size

I got it for under $200 on Black Friday but it’s still a good deal at its current price IMO

Looks like the expansion tank has sprung a leak/developed a crack. Gushing out under pressure. Called my local-ish dealer and they quoted $232 for the tank, and a five day delivery. Turned to Amazon which has one for $45 delivered tomorrow!

Swapped expansion tanks... real easy job even with the bottom hose clip. Here's the old tank with the crack circled. It is on a curved portion of the wall, so there must be some sort of a stress riser there, or it is made too thin in that spot. This is on a ten year old 2013 with 73k miles on it, so watch your tanks!
