More radio no sounds issues

So this is my first BMW but I have friends that have owned them for the last 15 years. I bought a 2011 X5 3.5i premium a couple of weeks ago that needed a little work. The biggest issue was the radio wasn't working.

I have done a lot of reading and searching over the last week following all the recommendations to resolve the issue.

Here's the symptoms:

There is no audio either from the radio or door chimes. All functions of the radio appear to work (am, fm, satellite, cd, etc).

It doesn't have the SOS light on the dash like many that I've read about.

There are no CEL or messages on the CIC.

What I've done:

Checked all related fuses to the radio. None were bad.

Ordered the fiber optic loop and tested the both the TCU and amplifier.

Amplifier is relaying the temp back to the scanner so I know it's partially working.

Borrowed my friends Autel diagnostics tool and pulled codes. There were quite a few codes initially and I cleared them.

Here's what is currently listed for codes:
9CC4- present (FRM- communication with passenger mirror (this mirror doesn't fold or adjust))
E3C4- not present (k-can short circuit to positive or ground)
E3C7- not present (k-can communication fault)
FFFF- cansys- communication fault

Any suggestions. I was hoping this was going to be an easy fix that I read about, but I can't find anything related to these k-can errors.

I already know I need to replace the passenger mirror and I don't believe that has an effect on the audio.

If it's not the amplifier it could be the head unit itself that isn't working.

Did a little more research and found out the HKL errors were due to the tailgate control module. I unplugged that and ran another scan and they k-can and cansys codes went away.

However, a previous code I cleared came back under the CIC section 'c589 external overvoltage'. Anyone have an idea what would cause that code?
