Need Help ! Car wont start or show park !
Hey guys, so the other night I drove into the city. I parked and shut the car off and legitimately 2 minutes later tried to start the car and nothing.
Car is a 2011 E70 X5 35i X-Drive MSport. Car showed : 4x4 Error Stabilization Error Fuel Pump Error Transmission Malfunction So after hours of trying to start the car we couldn't get it started. Here is the thing. The gear selector couldn't engage any gears. It didn't show park & I couldn't even get it in neutral. The shifter P wasn't lit up green like normal. So today we took the under panel off and did the emergency parking release to put the car in neutral. Tried to start the car again and it wouldn't start. Tried putting it into park, and then the N disappeared on the cluster. But what I noticed is a bunch of the codes went away after we got the trans into neutral, but then showed Transmission malfunction in P Position. We left it at that for tonight. Anyone have any thoughts ? I thought it would be the starter, but the fact that even after releasing the transmission the car wouldn't go into park, made me and my indy shop owner think that it could be a faulty shifter. Anyone have any thoughts on what could be wrong or experienced this before ?

Original battery? Have you run a diagnostic with Carly or similar?

Similar thing just happened to my 2011 50i last week when I went to start it after a couple weeks parked - keys wouldn't unlock doors, couldn't open hatch no response from any electronics or lights in car when opening doors, alarm wouldn't arm -- took me a significant amount of time to charge enough for a start and drove straight to dealership -- battery was in fact drained, they charged it up a bit and I was good to go...might be important to note that I did have it replaced about a year ago, if yours is original it may be time for a new one

I got the same as you but more errors, no lights on my shifter either, I hit park and it doesn't do anything, I got transmission error, dsc and xdrive error, servotronic error, chasis stabilization, level control system malfunction, tire pressure error and fuel pump. But I still got power on all the electronics, it cranks but it just don't start and I can hear the fuel pump running. I'm not so lucky that this happened to me while driving. The engine just died without any warnings, and it died like 10mins after I left my work, I let the engine idle for about 5mins to warm up the interior because it's canada, hehe....and then probably only about 500meters while driving the engine died and I roll into a stop.
Here is my thread. http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1360824 I will bet my money on a new battery. Please report back about your findings. |

Fellas ! Just got my car back ! The issue turned out to be a corroded and broken Ground Strap above the front drive side axle ! Such a cheap fix $30 part quick and easy install ! Thank god. And I put a new battery for precaution anyways! Thanks to everyone for their help with this situation

Where exactly does one look for this engine to chassis ground strap on the E70?
Is the location similar for all motors? I am planning on changing mine on a 2011 35d |

Well for my application, the location is on the drivers motor mount to the adjacent chassis. the nuts and screw attaching this 8" ground ( earth ) are all 13mm.
ITs best to tackle this job for the2011 LCI X5/35D from the drivers side wheel well with the wheel off and the drivers front supported by jack stands and the jack ..........after removing the 2 small plastic shields around the lower wheel well to the bottom of car and the other right above it. The lower shield has 5 8mm screws and 3 push pins connecting it to the car. The other small shield at the bottom of the wheel well is held on by one 8mm screw, one 10mm plastic nut and one pushpin. The Chassis nut is easily removed while I could not see the 13mm nut at the Left/ Drivers motor mount. This was done with my left hand forced under the sway bar and up over the front drive shaft to the top of the motor mount. There is no need to remove the large front plastic under tray or the metal plate/ torsion plate that covers the oil pan. Last edited by mzeed; 10-16-2018 at 09:09 PM.. |

See post # 14 above.
Basically it is in the same place on the N63 (V8) engine. I have a thread on it in the 6 series Forum with some pics. Where it bolts to the chassis is an easy get through the drivers wheel well (after it is dissected). It is a PITA to reach its engine attachment. Maintaining the grounds is critical, especially on these cars. I learnt this from maintaining a 32 year old Porsche. Add: My bad. I have a thread on it in the 6 series of the Bimmerfest forum.
