Snow tires?
Did they use snow tires in the scene fr. the Alps??
Does not look like it to me in the closeups. If they were snow tires there would be a layer on the tread, That's how snow tires work, Traction between snow & snow is better than snow vs. bare tire. Did he use the DTC switch on the console?? which is specifically mentioned in the manual, in those situations? Did he mention that despite the fancy glovebox door opening like a clam shell, the shape within is odd & difficult to fish things out off? Did he mention the DPC feature which is what makes the x6 great handling for this type of vehicle? Did he mention the award winning tt 3 liter n54 engine, w/ 300 lb/ft of torque fr. 1400-5500 rpm? Did he sit in the back to show us how tall he is & to demonstrate how much or lack of room there is? did he mention that the ride is stiff because he is probably running it on RF tires? that the compromise is softer ride vs. having to change a huge tire on the side of the road, when u r most likely to be in a rush, in the wrong weather & in the wrong neighbourhood or all of the above? Did he open the hatch to show how much room is available depite the coupe roof? No, no, no & no, to all the above. U see, if u ask all the wrong questions, u get all the wrong answers. Just like any survey or interview, can be interpreted or mis-interpreted. Everyone knows that top gear is a great show, because each of the hosts have their bias for certain vehicles. It's entertainment ! If u want just the facts, then read the spec sheet, on a beach in Barbados & entertain urself ! |

It looks like the X6 still had performance tires installed while the range rover had truck tires.
I can compare any two vehicles and make one look bad. Jeremy has always been entertaining but biased. BMW is expanding Spartanburg plant production because X6 demand is higher than expected. The consumer always decides what is useful, not a media figure head.

The British don't like any car that isn't a shaped like a square box. Any test done with anything against a rover and the rover ALWAYS wins. I don't think they will ever get over their inferiority complex.

One other thing. There is a difference between an AWD vehicle and a four-wheel drive vehicle like the range rover.
Four wheel drive trucks are generally designed for off road use. AWD drive is designed for better performance and handling while adding additional traction durign inclimate weather. The X3/5/6, Audi Quattro, Subaru, etc. were never really designed for off road use. You need a truck platform for that.

I love my X6 but just like JC's test this isn't fair, being the third to go up is a definite disadvantage as what little hard pack dirt there was has been trashed.
But this shows you can make any test come out the way you want if you stage it right, at least they didn't put summer tires on the RR. |
