My '12 X6 35i with some mods
Hey guys, I just joined the forum a few days ago. Consider this is my formal introduction. I traded in my IS250 for this bad boy back in June. so far, I am loving the car. It is my first BMW and by far the best vehicle I have owned. The handling is amazing...for a truck. it almost drives like a small coupe. My only complaint is the horrible MPG. Despite babying the car, I am only averaging 15 (mostly highway miles). Good thing, my commute is only 15 miles a day.
Anyway, here are some pics of my X6. Please let me know what you think..good or bad. updated pic of the rear! List of mods:
MODS TOTAL COST = under $900 Thats right. I saved some money by doing most of the work myself except for the wheels. They were professionally powdercoated by a local shop. Well, its pretty amazing how I was able to transform a stock X6 to this form for under $900. Last edited by XR_SIX; 09-02-2011 at 08:41 AM.. |

To me this is trying to look like a car too much. Why not leave it stock? Looks a lot cleaner and more grown up IMO. This looks like a 20 year old owns it.
Just an observation.

Lol BMW designed these trucks to look like a car. Its a crossover between coupe and suv. Even in its stock form, it looked like a car to me. But to each his own. Not a fan of stock form. Hence, I modded it to make it my "own" and to allow it to stand out. At least, I did not drop the it. Thanks for your feedback |

I'm ready to have my X6 too, and I'm thinking of 35i or 40d, plus performance kit(very same style with your car)
thanks for your sharing, a pretty car and good job by DIY! |

Very nice improvement for under $900!
I am interested to learn how you painted / vinyl strip the rear bumper. I would definitely like to do the same. It looks really good. Do you mind taking a few closer (and brighter) picture of the rear bumper, especially the black parts? Again, very nice looking mods! |

You will love the X6! Get 40d. If it was available at my local dealer, I would have got it instead. Thanks for the compliments.

I would be glad to take close up pics of the updated rear bumper. Give me a day or two. You can obtain the paint from expresspaint.com for 36 a can and vinyl from eBay. The hardest part was applying the painted vinyl on a curved surface such as X6 rear bumper. It requires a lot of patience. Took me days to finish the rear bumper alone. Paint sticks like a glue and will not peel. However, paint is not a 100% match but close enough. Oh the rear strip is a 3 piece strip. Close up pic would definitely show some lines. I do not have a machine so everything was cut using only a scissor and a box cutter lol. |

Thank you sir!!
Here is a close up pic of the vinyl'd rear bumper. It looks like an aftermarket and way better than stock. As stated in my previous post, vinyl has been cut by hand. Total cost is still under $900! The sensors have been covered but not affected. Last edited by XR_SIX; 09-21-2011 at 08:50 AM.. |

congrats
thanks for posting pics.
i give you credit, man, awesome you did the work yourself. make it your own. and about your MPG - with mostly short drives (maybe 1/3 freeway time), i struggle to keep my 35i above 15mpg over a full tank even babying it. if i get stuck in some traffic or if my mom borrows the car, my average can easily drop down to mid 14mpg. i get jealous when people say they get 18, 20, or more mpg regularly. glad you're enjoying your car... happy modding! . |

Thanks so much. It feels great knowing I did all the work myself and managed to transform my car into this form for less money.
As for my mpg, it is improving but then again I baby my car and try to keep the rpm under 2k when moving from a stop. Quote:
