Low oil 1 week after oil change
Hey guys, just had my wife's X5D oil changed last week by a qualified shop. Only drove it maybe 300 miles since then and last night the oil light came up when we turned the car off. iDrive says "engine oil at minimum level, add 1 quart of oil". Any ideas? We added 1 quart of Moutl oil (which is what it was changed with) and no leaks have been seen on the driveway. Car has about 85k miles. Any help is greatly appreciated!

***Update***
Added just under a quart of oil (eye-baled) and then drove the car a few miles and then checked the iDrive. Oil level on there showed max amount. Not sure what happened there but out of 8 quarts, I don't think adding almost a quart would go from minimum to max. Not sure if it was just a "glitch" in the iDrive or what but I will continue to monitor it and check it as well to see what it shows. |

I only saw "engine oil at minimum level" once when my Indy mechanic accidentally put 7 quarts of oil instead of 9 (X5M)
Usually the level goes down a little within 2k-3k miles after the oil change (I have that other quart seating in my trunk for that) and since I usually change oil between 5k-7k miles this isn't a problem. so back to you question for level to go from Max to Min in 300 miles and adding less than a quart brought it back sounds like something else...
