Yes, I removed the entire enclosure, but the bavsound woofer doesnt fit inside, not even with the metal grille removed. I contacted them and they said they are aware of this situation on SOME X5s, not on all.

Yes, and this is precisely what I did. The whole enclosure is held by four 10mm bolts, I removed it, then you unsnap the top portion of the enclosure and replace the speaker. The Bavsound speaker sits higher in the lower portion of the enclosure, and won't allow the top portion to snap back in. Bavsound said they are aware of this issue on some X5 models, and suggested I remove the metal grille from their speaker. With the grille removed I could snap it back together, but then the top portion of the enclosure touches and pushes on the speaker surround.

Just finished replacing the speakers. Man, what a day and night difference compared with stock. Replaced all seven speakers - four doors, center, and two rear, and it took me from 9pm til about 3:30am in my shop. But it was well worth it in the end, now the system punches even harder than the Bowers & Wilkins in my X6M, but perhaps not as balanced.

I am a happy camper, and I'm sure my daughter will be too, although she may not be too happy to part with my M2 that she's been driving for about a month.

Did you end up replacing the factory amp too?

No, I have Logic 7 system which already has a good amp - Bavsound does not sell a replacement.

Also thought about buying Top HiFi speakers and amp off of eBay and retrofitting into my ride. How is the sound quality of the factory Top HiFi, would it be worth the trouble of running new wires, splitting the MOST BUS, coding for Top HiFi, and buying new pillar panels for added speakers, etc?
I have the SA677A Top Hi-Fi sound system and it sounds amazing, really good across all bands with plenty of power
